• The documentary “Letters to Santa” debuts today at 9 p.m. on AlaskaOne.

FAIRBANKS — The film by University of Alaska Fairbanks student Kaleb Yates is described in a KUAC news release as a “light-hearted, inspirational look at the people who keep the spirit of Christmas alive by writing back to those who have written letters to Santa Claus.”

The film features vintage video clips and interviews with Gabby Gaborik of Santa’s Mailbag, postal worker Donna Mathews and middle school teacher Jeff Jacobson, a former mayor of North Pole.

The post office in North Pole attracts an estimated 150,000 letters to Santa Claus every year. Volunteer “elves” write return letters.

“Letters to Santa” will be rebroadcast at 3 a.m. on Nov. 29, Dec. 2 and on Christmas Eve, a KUAC news release said.

Before attending UAF, Yates worked as an extra in films and television in Hollywood.
