The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.

Assault

Justin Jay Vent, 19, of Huslia, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly pushed and kicked his girlfriend Tuesday in Fairbanks. He also was charged with violating conditions of release since he had been ordered by a judge not to have contact with the woman without her written permission, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

Burglary

• Tools were reported stolen Tuesday from a Valley View Drive home. Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call Alaska State Troopers at 451-5100.

• Someone broke into the Alaska Espresso next to the Alaska Steakhouse overnight Tuesday and stole $80 in cash. Troopers are investigating.

DUI

Jacques Rene Legerat, 54, was charged with driving under the influence after troopers stopped him early Tuesday morning for making a turn at the intersection of University Avenue and the Johansen Expressway without using his turn signal. Legerat smelled of alcohol and had bloodshot, watery eyes at the time of his arrest, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

He also was charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test.

Weapons misconduct

Brian Sylvester Garner, Jr., a 28-year-old convicted felon, was charged with two counts of weapons misconduct, one a felony and one a misdemeanor after troopers contacted him Monday and found him to be in possession of a handgun. Garner and another man were returning to a vehicle that ran out of gas on the Mitchell Expressway, near Lathrop Street when the trooper contacted them, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
