Public safety report - Dec. 1
The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.
Assault
• Shelby Ray Bakken, 26, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly threw his girlfriend off a couch and dragged her back into the house when she tried to call 911 on Sunday. He also was charged with interfering with the report of a crime involving domestic violence.
• Aaron C. Bergman, 19, of Hughes, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly threw his girlfriend to floor and pulled a phone line out of the wall Nov. 18 in Hughes. He also was charged with interfering with the report of a crime involving domestic violence.
• A man accused of trying to kill his estranged wife last month faces new charges of fourth-degree assault and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
Court documents allege Jamaar Rabime Brown, 27, of Fairbanks, pushed his wife and broke her cell phone on Oct. 7 at the Borealis Floral and Inn where he was staying.
The two were discussing ownership of an SUV in their pending divorce, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
Brown allegedly forced his way into the woman’s home last month at knife point, tied her up with duct tape and assaulted her. She was able to escape when he drove her to another location, and Brown spent about a week on the lam before turning himself into police. His bail in that case has been set at
$1 million.
• Bryan S. Daleiden, 26, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly punched his wife in the face multiple times on Sunday.
• Adrian Francis Eagleshield, 28, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly shoved his wife Friday morning and tried to take her phone from her when she attempted to call 911. He also was charged with interfering with the report of a crime involving domestic violence and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
• Joseph Gary Garner, Jr., 28, of Fairbanks, was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly bit his wife and pushed his stepson Thursday night.
• Alvin C. Gottschalk, 50, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly punched his girlfriend in the face Saturday.
• Charley Maasak Taalak Kovalsky, 23, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly bit his girlfriend’s lip Sunday.
• Gina Madros, 31, of Kaltag, was charged with fourth-degree assault after she allegedly punched her brother Friday in Kaltag.
• Cheryl Robin Neglaska, 20, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after she allegedly punched another woman in the face Friday. Neglaska was reportedly upset that the other woman was “rubbing up against her boyfriend,” according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
Burglary
A Gold Rush Estates man told Alaska State Troopers on Saturday an unknown masked man assaulted him and ransacked his home.
Two other people were believed to have accompanied the masked man. The suspects fled in an unknown direction afterward.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to call troopers at 451-5100.
DUI
• Alicia Katie Charlie, 33, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police stopped her for making an improper turn Friday at the intersection of Bjerramark Street and 23rd Avenue. A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.210. The legal limit to operate a motor vehicle is 0.08.
• Kenneth Bryce Ford, 19, was charged with driving under the influence after troopers pulled him over Sunday for driving with one headlight on Geist Road near Fairbanks Street. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.132. He also was charged with minor operating a motor vehicle after consuming and minor consumption.
• North Pole police arrested a man Saturday after clocking him at more than 100 mph on the Richardson Highway.
Anthony Monroe King, Jr., 30, of Fairbanks, has been charged with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a chemical test, failure to stop at the direction of a peace officer and reckless driving.
Police attempted to pull King over near 35 Mile Richardson Hwy., but he turned into 12 Mile Village and continued to drive on several residential streets. He nearly struck a building at the intersection of Loomis Drive and Compton Street, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
King eventually turned into a field off of a private driveway where he lost control of his car, flipping it on its side. He attempted to run from the scene and had to be Tasered to be taken into custody, according to the complaint.
King had bloodshot eyes and poor balance at the time of his arrest, court documents allege. A nearly empty bottle of vodka was found in his car.
• Patrick Mott, 24, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police saw him hit a parked car early Saturday morning in the parking lot of the Gold Rush Saloon. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.089.
• Joseph Clayton Pegram, 25, was charged with driving under the influence Thursday after troopers found his vehicle stuck in the center median of the Parks Highway near Geist Road. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.117.
• Antonio Lava Martin Roybal, Jr., 52, of Fairbanks, was charged with felony driving under the influence after Fairbanks police spotted his vehicle early Saturday morning in the ditch along Phillips Field Road. Roybal admitted to being intoxicated and told police it was the third time he had been arrested for drunken driving, according to a criminal complaint filed in court. He also was charged with felony refusal to submit to a chemical test.
• Elmer Taylor, Jr., 62, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police pulled him over for weaving late Saturday night on the Steese Expressway, near 10th Avenue. Taylor admitted to taking Vicodin before driving, and several other prescription pain relievers were found in his vehicle, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
A drug recognition exam determined that he was under the influence of a depressant and unable to safely drive.
• Lucille Vent, 32, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police received a report early Friday morning that she struck another car in the parking lot of the Arctic Bar. The owner of the other vehicle followed Vent to Northgate Mall where she told him to “call the cops because she was going to run,” according to a criminal complaint filed in court. A male passenger jumped out of her passenger seat and fled the area as well.
Using her license plate number, police tracked Vent to her home where she denied driving. At the time of her arrest, she smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech and poor balance, according to the complaint.
She also was charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test and leaving the scene of an accident.
Theft
• Pearl earrings and a baby ring worth about $500 were reported stolen Sunday from a home in the 3000 block of Adam Drive. The owner told Fairbanks police the jewelry was stolen sometime since Oct. 1.
• A Sophie Apartments man told Fairbanks police Sunday he suspects another man who was staying with him for several days stole $1,500 in cash.
• Troopers received a report Monday of signs near the Pleasant Valley Store on Chena Hot Springs Road being stolen. The signs are valued at $1,500.
• Troopers received a report Monday that multiple checks were stolen from the mail in the Steele Creek Road area and fraudulently used.
