The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.

Assault

• John Luke Nickoli, 52, was charged with two counts of third-degree assault on Wednesday stemming from allegations he struck a man with the barrel of a rifle and struck another man with a willow, court records stated.

• Catherine Mutchler, 45, of Fairbanks, was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault based on allegations she slapped her daughter and pulled her hair on Thursday, court records stated.

• A woman told Fairbanks police that an assailant punched her in the face after he asked her for money and she refused.

According to police records, the incident happened about 5 a.m. Thursday on 17th Avenue near the Anderson Apartments.

The suspect was described as a black man in his 20s, 6-feet, 2-inches tall with braided hair, according to police records.

The man reportedly was wearing a gray and black coat, jeans and a black T-shirt.

Drugs

A 26-year-old North Pole man was charged with felony drug possession after he was stopped for speeding Thursday, according to court records.

Dustin Gregory Harrison faces a charge of fourth-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance.

A police officer spotted a small plastic bag in his vehicle after stopping him for driving 75 mph in a

55 mph zone.

The substance inside the bag is suspected to be methamphetamine, records stated.

DUI

• Sylvia Jean Johnson, 58, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after authorities said she was found passed out behind the wheel Thursday on a roadway, according to court records.

Johnson registered 0.151 on a chemical breath test, records stated. The legal limit to operate a motor vehicle is 0.08.

• Teresa Marie Benzel, 54, of Fairbanks, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after she was involved in a vehicle collision Wednesday, court records stated.

Benzel registered 0.246 on a chemical breath test. She told authorities that she had consumed two glasses of wine, records stated.

Multiple charges

Shawn Michael Brown, 42, was charged with first-degree burglary, felony assault, criminal mischief and violating the conditions of his release from jail.

According to court records, Brown is accused of attempting to break into his estranged girlfriend’s home on Tuesday to retrieve his belongings.

She told authorities that he smashed a window on her vehicle after she confronted him.

The woman reportedly was injured by flying glass.

Unlawful evasion

Gavis Von Thomas, 40, is accused of unlawful evasion after failing to return to a low-security detention facility on Nov. 14.
