The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.
AssaultCleo Mesina Hardwick, 29, of Fairbanks, was charged with fourth-degree assault after she allegedly threw a toy lightsaber at her husband Wednesday. She is also accused of grabbing his testicles.
Burglary• Fairbanks police are investigating a burglary that occurred overnight Tuesday at Power Communications Corporation.
A worker came in Wednesday morning to discover tools and two trucks missing. A third truck also had been moved.
The trucks were kept inside the building, unlocked and with keys in in the ignitions, according to Fairbanks police.
The stolen trucks are described as a white Chevrolet pickup, license plate EJF839, and a Red GMC pickup, license plate 5293DJ. Both vehicles have Power Communications decals on them.
• Alaska State Troopers discovered Wednesday that two people entered a home in Clear, near 277 Mile Parks Highway, and took several items.
The suspects left the garage door open, causing pipes to freeze and resulting in damage to the home.
A burglary charge has been forwarded to the Fairbanks District Attorney’s office.
• Troopers received a report of a burglary in Salcha on Wednesday.
DrugsTroopers searching for two fugitives Wednesday in North Pole instead discovered a marijuana grow. Approximately 80 ounces of marijuana was seized. The investigation is ongoing.
ForgeryA Fairbanks woman is accused of stealing more than $2,000 worth of money orders from the gas station where she worked.
Saachia Ann Smith-Arnold, 21, has been charged with four counts of second-degree forgery, a class C felony.
A manager at the Holiday Gas Station at 2300 South Cushman Street called Fairbanks police Tuesday after discovering Smith-Arnold printed four money orders while working the previous day, but none of the money was accounted for.
When police contacted her, Smith-Arnold at first denied taking the money orders, but then said she could lead authorities to their location. One of money orders was found in her vehicle, and the other two were at her home, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.
Smith-Arnold told police the fourth money order had been given to someone else, but she refused to divulge his or her identity, according to the complaint.
FraudA soldier who recently returned from Iraq told Fairbanks police Wednesday that while he was gone, someone in Michigan opened an AT&T account in his name and racked up a bill of more than $550.
TheftTroopers received a report Thursday that checks had been stolen from a mail box near Paintbrush Creek in North Pole. The checks were used to fraudulently purchase items from several stores in the North Pole area, according to troopers.
Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call troopers at 451-5100.
