Kirk: Palin memo not sign of shifting to the right

CHICAGO - Senate candidate Mark Kirk says reaching out to Sarah Palin was not a sign that he's shifting to the right in an effort to win over conservative Republicans.

Kirk said Wednesday that he's simply trying to build a broad coalition that will appeal to all Republicans and independents, as well as some Democrats.

Kirk's views on guns, abortion and the environment have angered many Illinois conservatives.

Palin is one of the country's most popular figures among conservatives. Kirk recently sent her a memo outlining why she should make supportive comments about him during a visit to Chicago next week.

His effort was criticized by Democrats and Republicans alike.

Kirk says he hasn't changed his views, calling himself socially moderate and fiscally conservative.

this is interesting. on most articles dealing with sarah the comment section fills up with jabs and taunts about sarah on how dumb or crazy she is.

this is interesting. on most articles dealing with sarah the comment section fills up with jabs and taunts about sarah on how dumb or crazy she is. but this chicago politician knows that she can bring him success by just standing on the same stage with him. and he is desparate to get her to endorse him. somebody, somewhere seems to like sarah. and my guess is that they don't spend a lot of time adding comments to articles in online paper comment sections, because you seem to see nothing bad ill will for sarah here.

but sorry kirk, if you want to be a part of the crowd you have to wear the right kind of suit.

ALERT! I heard there are some military guys driving around and trying to pick up kids! I am stunned that the FDNM hasn’t made this their primary headline yet! This is definitely something that EVERYONE needs to know immediately! Tell your kids to scream out and get their license #’s as soon as they attempt to pull over and talk to them! I appreciate what the military has done for our country and I guess when they harass a few folks in the streets once in a while that’s fine and dandy but when it comes to Fairbanks’ children oh NO! There MUST be something done about this!! FDNM, headline what needs to be known for the kids’ sake!
