JUNEAU, Alaska - The federal government is putting a federal prosecutor in Juneau.

The U.S. Department of Justice has created a new position in Alaska's capital city.

It plans on opening a U.S. Attorney's office next month.

Former Juneau Assistant District Attorney Jack Schmidt has been hired for the job.

Karen Loeffler, U.S. attorney for the Alaska district, says Schmidt is already working but for now out of an FBI office in the Federal Building. His office is expected to be ready next month.

The U.S. Department of Justice now has 24 assistant attorneys working in Alaska.
