Michael Anthony Hyatt

1964 - 2008

Michael Anthony Hyatt, 43, left us April 11, 2008, at his home in Chugiak.
Tony was born Aug. 22, 1964, in Boise, Idaho, and attended primary school in LaGrande, Ore., Anchorage and Fox Elementary School, Tanana Middle School and West Valley High School in Fairbanks. He received his GED diploma in 1984. He attended welding school in Phoenix.
He married Melissa Braillier on May 1,1987, in Phoenix. They later divorced. For the past 13 years, Tony lived in Chugiak where he worked as a carpenter and tile-layer. Tony enjoyed woodworking in his free time, and it was an honor to receive one of his creations as a gift.
In Anchorage, Tony was a former member of the American Legion.
During the summers, Tony could often be found crewing on the vessel Nizhoni out of Valdez with his family and friends. He wintered in Seattle, where he helped out on family home remodels and was a frequent attendee at his niece and nephew’s sporting events. Family and friends recalled that Tony was a willing and caring listener with a ready smile. He was always the first to lend a hand and the last to criticize or complain. His cheerful demeanor and gentle humor will be greatly missed. He was his dad’s pal and best friend and his mom’s rock. They will miss Tony forever.
Tony is survived by his parents, Michael and Jana Hyatt of Fairbanks, now snow-birding in Sequim, Wash.; brother and sister-in-law, Todd and Melissa of Seattle; daughters, Elizabeth of Heppner, Ore., and Cierra of Vancouver, Wash.; grandmother, Wilma Hyatt; aunts, Joanne Yeakley of Payette, Idaho, Norma Witt of Salem, Ore., and Kathy Wright of Boise, Idaho; uncles and aunts, Keith and Donna of Fruitland, Idaho, Kenneth Larsen of Gresham, Ore., and Jim and Apryl Davenport of Deering, N.D.; niece and nephew, Isabelle Hyatt and Connor Hyatt, both of Seattle; and cousins from Arizona, Idaho, Oregon and California.
A service and celebration of life was held April 18 in Chugiak. His cremains will be scattered this summer out of Valdez with notice to all friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dungeness Valley Health & Wellness Clinic.
Condolences may be sent to his parents at P.O. Box 1957, Valdez, AK 99686.
