Public Safety Report — January 7

The Public Safety Report is compiled from criminal complaints filed in state and federal courts, as well as some police blotter information, trooper dispatches, fire department reports and interviews with public safety officials. Individuals named as arrested and/or charged with crimes in this report are presumed innocent until proved guilty in a court of law.

Assault

• Scott Allen Matheny, 42, of Fairbanks was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly pushed a man against a wall and struck him in the chest Saturday.

• Tracy McGill, 42, of Fairbanks was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault after he allegedly struck his wife on two occasions Sunday morning.

• Denise Stickman, 22, of Fairbanks was charged with fourth-degree assault after she allegedly hit her boyfriend in the face Saturday morning. She had originally called police claiming that he struck her, which police found no evidence of, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

She also was charged with making a false report.

• Tommy J. Okphea, 21, of Barrow was charged with fourth-degree assault after he allegedly bit a woman early Saturday morning. Okphea, who had been drinking, told authorities he had no memory of the incident, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

Burglary

Someone attempted to enter the Co-op Building through Beads and Things around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday morning. It was unclear what, if anything, was taken. Fairbanks police are investigating.

DUI

• Richard Eugene Anderson, 56, of Alaska was charged with driving under the influence after Alaska State Troopers noticed him failing to maintain his lane on the Old Steese Highway near Blackberry Road. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.143.

• Kendra Lee Bailey, 21, of Alaska was charged with driving under the influence after troopers came upon her vehicle in a ditch Saturday on 23rd Avenue near Gillam Way. She at first claimed that another man had crashed the vehicle and left the scene, but troopers found footprints indicating another person had been nearby, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.186, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 to operate a motor vehicle.

• Lori Mae Darneille, 53, of North Pole was charged with driving under the influence after her husband reported that she had left a home drunk Sunday night to get more alcohol. A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.124.

• Adam Joseph Dille, 37, of Fairbanks was charged with driving under the influence after troopers noticed him failing to maintain his lane on the Steese Highway near Goldmine Trail. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.039.

• Charity Faith Haker, 31, of Alaska was charged with driving under the influence after troopers spotted her failing to maintain her lane Sunday on Goldstream Road. A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.080.

• Carlos Jesus Henriquez, 21, of Anderson was charged with driving under the influence after troopers witnessed him driving without a rear license plate on Airport Way near Peger Road. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.111.

• Donovan L. Robertson, 25, of Fairbanks was charged with driving under the influence after authorities observed him driving erratically on Airport Way. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.141.

He also was charged with driving with a revoked license.

• Phillip W. Steik, 23, of Fairbanks was charged with driving under the influence after troopers noticed him fail to stop at a posted sign at the intersection of 14th Avenue and Stacia Street.

He also was charged with disorderly conduct.

A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.198.

• Bonnie C. Thompson, 20, of Fairbanks was charged with driving under the influence after a man said that she hit his vehicle Sunday night at the Golden Nugget Hotel. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.149.

She also was charged with leaving the scene of an accident.

• Mark A. Herzberg, 53, of Fairbanks was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police said he narrowly missed a patrol car engaged in a traffic stop. The alleged incident occurred early Sunday morning on Airport Way near Peger Road.

A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.227, nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08 to operate a motor vehicle.

• Michael Williams James Jumper, 23, of Slana was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police pulled him over for driving without headlights early Thursday morning on Airport Way near Cowles Street. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.120.

• Kris A. Mountain, 51, of Fairbanks was charged with driving under the influence after Fairbanks police came upon her vehicle in a ditch on Thursday night on 23rd Avenue near Cushman Street. A chemical test found her breath-alcohol content to be 0.247.

• Keith A. Roberts, 32, of Venetie was charged with driving under the influence after troopers witnessed him driving erratically on the Johansen Expressway near Danby Road. Roberts initially gave troopers a false name and birthday, according to a criminal complaint filed in court. A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.092.

He also was charged with make a false report and driving without a valid license.

• Thomas A. Turnbough, 21, of Fairbanks was charged with driving under the influence after troopers responded a report of a possible prowler Thursday morning on the 4200 block of Birch Lane. Turnbough told troopers that he had been knocking on the door because he thought it was friend’s house, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

A chemical test found his breath-alcohol content to be 0.165.

Multiple charges

Authorities believe a Fairbanks man was driving under the influence of crack cocaine.

Lawrence Avery, 53, has been charged with felony drugs misconduct and driving under the influence.

Fairbanks police pulled him over early Saturday morning on the Steese Expressway after watching him drive erratically. Avery was excited and appeared restless, according to a criminal complaint filed in court. The arresting officer also found what appeared to be a crack rock in the driver’s seat, as well as a loaded revolver underneath it.

Avery declined a drug recognition exam, but police obtained a search warrant for a blood draw.

The drug recognition expert believed that Avery was under the influence of a stimulant, according to the complaint.

Vehicle collision

A North Pole woman was injured Monday because she was distracted by her ringing cell phone while driving.

Lindsay Lelonde-Bender, 32, was driving toward North Pole on Badger Road just after 2:15 p.m. when she crashed her 2003 Chevy Avalanche into a ditch, flipping the vehicle onto its roof. She sustained minor injuries and was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.

She also was cited for not wearing a seatbelt.
