FAIRBANKS — The North Pole at Lathrop high school basketball games that were scheduled for Tuesday night have been postponed because of cold temperatures.

The Mid Alaska Conference games have been rescheduled for Feb. 10.

Also, girls hockey games between Dimond/West of Anchorage and the Arctic Bears of Fairbanks scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Patty Center have been canceled. Those games will not be made up.

All other high school athletic activities scheduled for this week are still on. Decisions on those contests will be made on a day-by-day basis due to the extreme weather conditions in the Interior.

As of the close of school on Tuesday, tonight’s Aurora Conference basketball games featuring the Monroe Catholic Rams and the Eielson Ravens will be played as scheduled. The boys varsity contest is slated to start at 6 p.m. and the girls game is at 7:30 p.m.

Also on today’s schedule is a Greatland Conference hockey contest between Monroe Catholic and Hutchison at 4 p.m. at the Big Dipper Ice Arena.

Golden Heart hoops

Lathrop is scheduled to host the Golden Heart Basketball Tournament Thursday through Saturday. The round-robin tournament features girls teams from Lathrop, West Valley, Sitka and Kodiak. In the boys tournament, Lathrop will host West Valley, Glennallen and the Lathrop junior varsity.

Thursday’s opening round features the Sitka girls against West Valley at 3 p.m., the Lathrop boys junior varsity against West Valley at 4:30, the Kodiak girls against Lathrop at 6 p.m. and the Glennallen boys against Lathrop at 7:30 p.m.

The boys kick things off on Friday with West Valley taking on Glennallen at 3 p.m., followed by the Kodiak girls against West Valley at 4:30 p.m., the two Lathrop boys teams at 6 p.m. and the Lathrop girls against Sitka at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday’s action kicks off with the Sitka and Kodiak girls playing at 3 p.m., and the Lathrop boys junior varsity meeting Glennallen at 4:30 p.m. The Lathrop and West Valley varsity teams will play the final two games, with the girls tipping off at 6 p.m. and the boys taking the court at 7:30.

Other hoops

There are plenty of other games on the schedule for the area’s Aurora Conference (Class 3A) and Central Interior Conference (2A) schools.

In Aurora Conference action, Delta Junction is scheduled to host Valdez, while the Hutchison boys are slated to play at the Dimond Invitational.

Effie Kokrine is slated to host Central Interior Conference games with Anderson on Friday and Tri-Valley on Saturday. Tri-Valley entertains Su-Valley on Friday night and Anderson host Su-Valley on Saturday.

Prep Hockey

The Interior’s three Mid Alaska Conference teams — Lathrop, North Pole and West Valley — are on the road this weekend.

All three teams have one conference game against Houston and a non-conference game against Palmer. They also are scheduled to play one game against schools from the Cook Inlet Conference (Anchorage).

Some of the Greatland Conference schools have games scheduled this weekend.

Monroe Catholic is scheduled to host Glennallen at 6:45 p.m. on Friday and 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the Polar Ice Arena. Tri-Valley is slated to host Su-Valley on Friday night and Hutchison on Saturday afternoon. Delta Junction is scheduled to host Nikiski on Friday and Saturday.
