A missing sign with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's picture is taped on a light post as protesters hold signs at a Hold Palin Accountable rally organized by Alaskans For Truth, in Anchorage, Alaska on Sept. 27, 2008. Hundreds of people showed up to demand Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Sen. John McCain's GOP running mate, uphold her promise to cooperate with the state Legislature's investigation into her firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Hundreds of people turned out for an anti-Sarah Palin rally in Anchorage.

People waved signs at honking cars headed downtown and listened to speakers in Saturday's rally organized by a group called Alaskans for Truth.

They were protesting that Sen. John McCain's GOP running mate has stopped participating in the state Legislature's investigation into her firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan. The McCain campaign has said the lawmakers' inquiry is biased and driven by the election.

One demonstrator, Anchorage resident Vonda Roark-Martinez, carried a sign that said "Hey Sarah Can you see reality from Alaska?"

Roark-Martinez says Palin should go back to her hometown of Wasilla because she doesn't have the experience to be vice president.

    Why Obama Will Lose and

Why MCCAIN PALIN WILL WIN by a LANDSLIDE in November

When Obama refers to “my Muslim faith,” the verbal gaffe resonates as a Freudian slip because of Obama’s thinly veiled hatred for this country’s unique culture and institutions. Obama sat for 20 years in a church where the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr preached “god d_mn America.” He only resigned from the congregation when it became politically expedient to do so. When earlier this year, Michelle Obama said “for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,” can we conclude that her husband disagrees? Is it not remarkable that Michelle Obama can be so small-minded as to find nothing in the history of the United States that merits her admiration but the personal success of her husband?

What is Barack Obama for? His campaign motto is “change.” But even a 6-year-old child understands that “change” can be either good or bad. Lacking specifics, the invocation of “change” as policy is completely empty. As we witness Obama’s minions mindlessly endorse the meaningless maxim of “change,” it only can call to mind the barnyard animals in George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” chanting “four legs good, two legs bad!”

The choice of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate has been devastating for the Obama campaign precisely because she is everything Obama is not. Palin is not ashamed of her culture or country. She is not embarrassed by being an American, but naively embraces her birthright. Unassisted by affirmative action, Palin has risen to national prominence on the basis of her character, intelligence and natural gifts. In a word, she has guts. This is a woman who is proud of her country, not because it has granted her personal success, but because she respects what America stands for: freedom, opportunity, and individualism.

Obama is a vapid demagogue, a hollow man that despises American culture. He is ill-suited to be president of the United States. As the weeks pass, more Americans will come to this realization and elect McCain/Palin in a landslide. David Deming

Tell me, Fairbanks Newsminer, why do you not say "THOUSANDS" welcome Sarah home? But yet you revert to numbers (hundreds) protest her. Makes it sounds so awful. I have noticed for quite awhile now that your news articles are biased and I am surprised the IRS has not yet classified you as a political group, rather than a news group. If Sarah is so awful, why is her approval rating up in the 80's in Alaska? Or is it the 90's?

Sparkling......are you the David Deming who signed at the bottom of the above post? If not, please provide the source of the article.

The article is gibberish! The "my Muslim faith" spoken by Senator Obama was taken out of context and viciously twisted by the Republican slime machine that is so hell-bent on getting Palin/McCain elected. Shame on them! Obama has professed his Christianity many times, which he or any candidate should never feel obligated to do, of course. But with a nation of so many paranoid and bigoted haters like the U.S. has, it is, unfortunately, still a necessity. At least Obama has not tried to interject religion into government matters like a certain vice presidential candidate has done.

The statement "When earlier this year, Michelle Obama said “for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,” can we conclude that her husband disagrees? Is it not remarkable that Michelle Obama can be so small-minded as to find nothing in the history of the United States that merits her admiration but the personal success of her husband?" is, once again, utter nonsense! Even Laura Bush said she thought her words had been misconstrued by some of the media. I can tell you this, Sparkling.....I served my country for 20 years in the military and 25 years in the civil service and am probably more of a patriot than you could ever hope to be....and I too have little pride in the direction our government has taken in the past few decades! Do I think Obama is a magic bullet and that he is going to solve all our problems? Of course not. But he is a far, far better choice than the alternative!

As to the phrase "Lacking specifics, the invocation of “change” as policy is completely empty"......you havn't been paying attention, sir! Senator Obama has given great detail about the direction he wants this nation to take.

"The choice of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate has been devastating for the Obama campaign precisely because she is everything Obama is not." Oh.....is THAT why Palin/Obama continue to fall further behind in the polls?

"Palin is not ashamed of her culture or country. She is not embarrassed by being an American, but naively embraces her birthright." Bullpuckey! Give me one instance of Obama saying he embarrassed by being an American.....just one.

"Palin has risen to national prominence on the basis of her character, intelligence and natural gifts." You have got to be kidding!

"Obama is a vapid demagogue, a hollow man that despises American culture."

"Definition - Demagogy refers to a political strategy for obtaining and gaining political power by appealing to the popular prejudices, emotions, fears and expectations of the public — typically via impassioned rhetoric and propaganda, and often using nationalist or populist themes."

After all the smear and fear tactics the Palin/McCain campaign has been using, and after last nights debate when McCain would not even look Obama in the eye, it appears the above definition fits McCain perfectly.

Landslide for McCain? You'll be damn lucky if it is not a landslide for Obama! Obama showed the American public and the world what he is made of....there is no doubt he is going to be the 44th President of the United States of America!

Unfortunately, Obama isn't a Muslim, contrary to the nonsense spouted by Corsi and the Hannity crowd. I personally would rather he be a Muslim than an outspoken evangelical Christian (which he luckily isn't), as most Muslims seem to have a bit more honor and ethics than the evangelicals.

It is not how stupid they think we are , But how stupid they want us to be.

When people are protesting one V.P. canadate for lack of expearience and not protesting the presidential canadate on the other sides expearience being remarkably less and his only expertice reading a teleprompter as his V.P. chioce daily shoots himself in the foot with his head "Where the sun doesn't shine".

Palin was part owner of a car wash in Anchorage. Not only did she fail to disclose her stake in the business as is required for one running for office, but they failed to file the biennial report and fees as required by state law! Those reports and fees were over a year past due and a warning letter went unheeded. In April 2007, while Palin was governor, finally issued a "certificate of involuntary dissolution".

I doubt it or you would have noticed that each podium was turned inward at a 45 degree angle so each candidate was able to face the moderator, Jim Lehrer, and also for each candidate to be able to turn slightly to face their opponent. The only time McCain faced Obama was at the beginning when they shook hands....period! Obama frequently turned and faced McCain, looking straight at him, while he was addressing McCain and while McCain was addressing him. In a free society, Democrats hold a lot of rallies.

Remember many of their pro Al-Quada and surrender rallies during the last 8 years?

Your probably don't! Because, the pro Al-Quada media spun the "news" to read anti-war rally.

Anyone remember the Democrats and BO's pro surrender and Al-Quada speeches a few years ago. ... American troops are murdering women and children... Boy! Those speeches made the anti-American press world wide.

I'd like to see Sarah Palin and Valerie Plame get together and have some long discussions.. If Sarah wrote a book I'm sure Valerie would take the time to read it if Sarah promised to read Valeries Books.

Sybil Edmonds is another gal who Sarah might find to be interesting to talk to.

Sarah would do well to work a few more civil service career jobs that take here closer to the ground truth overseas before she tries to parasail her way into the WhiteHouse. If she took Valerie Plames old job she might add a few more colors to the black&white cartoons that leak out of her head during her media interviews. It seems her outlook on Foreign Policy sounds like what you'd hear in the NCO-club at Elmendorf, or the firing range at Wainwright.

The Associated Press is once again doing the "Alaskan" reporting for the DNM. Did Gov. Palin run over a dog belonging to the AP? What's with the hate? Surely the Presidential election is not that important (unless a Chief Justice is ready to kick the bucket). It's all about the power of the purse (Congress). Remember those guys. The ones who are just about ready to give away $700 BILLION dollars you (we) haven't even earned yet. Tax cuts my _ss.

It is quite possible that the overtly bias reporting will backfire on the DNM. The day after the election, when all of the out-of-state (paid bloggers for the national campains) are no longer writing salacious statements on this website, the list of paid subscribers will be fewer in number.

    On yet another unrelated topic,

I remember seeing the first Obama ad on local t.v. here in Fairbanks. I was impressed and listening. After all, we are usually ignored by the national candidates. However, I don't recall seeing another television ad after Gov. Palin was picked by Senator McCain. I guess he thought he couldn't win over us local independent voters.

I've attended many of those rallys, standing alongside many others, both veterans like myself, and non-veterans, to protest a war that has, besides the Vietnam war, turned out to be the greatest boondoggle in the history of this nation! As for Governor Palin, I don't think you can fairly blame the so called "liberal" media for her difficulties at the national level. Check out yesterday's column by Kathleen Parker at National Review Online (http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=MDZ...). Here's the money quote: "Palin’s recent interviews with Charles Gibson, Sean Hannity, and now Katie Couric have all revealed an attractive, earnest, confident candidate. Who Is Clearly Out Of Her League." She simply has become a liability to the McCain campaign, and railing against the media won't change that.

You guys complaining about FDNM "coverage" should save your breath. Complain to the Associated Press, Scripps-Howard, Bloomberg and the like. News services like these write the articles. You may read some local stories by local reporters, but state-wide or nation-wide pieces are written by these news services. In some cases the FDNM may write the headline, or photo captions, but mostly they just edit the articles to fit them into specific spaces on the page of the newspaper. Such is modern "journalism".
A journalist might explain to you that "Anchorage resident Vonda Roark" the protester referenced in in the article, is a court-clogging degenerate with more than 10 judgments against her in the last 5 years, ranging from infractions like driving without a license, to judgements for thousands of dollars where she's had to be sued to pay her debt...but she was hired by the Anchorage School District to work security at Service High School, so she must be alright. What a poor example...I think she wants Obama to keep HER from reality.

There is nothing new on Palin from this article. She is still there running for office and will be in the debate. That is the only thing we can look at to see if she is a worthy candidate. If she does not do well then, then those who protest can have their day, as they are entitled too. But we need facts here, and not someone elses' lines to look at. Who cares what others write, it's all BS anyway. If you want to be a good citizen look at all the facts and make up your own mind, why spread hatred. There is enough in the world as it is, and if we did not live in this country with our laws, we would be killing each other like every other country. But we are in the USA, and we have rights, so just the facts, not articles written with big money behind them to influence those without their own thoughts.

Why is it people argue over platforms and policies and vague statements by both the Republicans and Democrats, yet when men like Ron Paul give solid facts backed up by research and reference, they are ignored or worse yet, labeled a 'crackpot'?

ALL you Republicans and Democrats better take heed; congress is right now giving away your country and your children's birthright by bail-out economics...they are in truth either air-heads incapable of understanding the far reaching consequences of their actions; or they are already puppets in the control of the big-money corporations.

Until the people in this country stand up and take back our government from these evil and clueless men, we will continue to slide into the abyss of debt THEY created...and it could very well be too late, because most of you are far too indoctrinated to do any research or free thinking of your own.

Patrick Kerber...Being as you referred to Sarah Palin as "Your Beloved Governor" leads be to believe that you are not from Alaska and do not know a thing about our Governor except what the media feeds you. Get used to the name Sarah Palin she will be our next Vice President of United States of America.

I do agree Sarah did poorly in the interview. But I do not really care if you are good at public speaking.

If that is how we choose our candidates then we may continue to have one incredible mess.

Are you people kidding me? Palin has done nothing but lie. All you have to do is watch all the videos of her and count how many times she changes her story. She hasn't held to the platform she ran on of truth and transparency and public safety. She looked like a babbling idiot in her Katie Couric interview and if you think she didn't maybe you didn't get the questions either. She has 3 ethics investigations ongoing. I used to respect John McCain but not since he supports and condones her lies and is adding many of his own. You can't believe a word either of these two say. I am an independent and if I could have attended the anti Palin rallies I would have. Geesh just go drink your kool aid and maybe once consider checking your facts.
And to those of you who think those who don't support Palin should send their checks back----this vote is NOT FOR SALE!

    allhaileris.........

How wonderful of you to dig into a person's court records and post them for all the world to see! You read the article on the anti-Palin rally and noticed that one Vonda Roark-Martinez held up a sign saying "Hey Sarah can you see reality from Alaska?" I incensed you so much that you just had to research the internet, including the Alaska Court System and see just what kind of dirt you could dig up on her. Correct? And find some you did!

Only problem, allhaileris, is the fact that you LIED! You said she's a "court-clogging degenerate with more than 10 judgments against her in the last 5 years". LIAR!! She has ONE judgement against her in the last 5 years, and that one was 5 years ago! One other 5 years ago was dismissed! The rest were beyond 5 years and as far back as 15 years! LIAR!!!

Do you thing, allhaileris, that a person who has not had so much as a speeding ticket in five years just might have straightened out their life? Possible?? Have YOU never had any kind of infraction or judgement against you....for anything? Including a speeding ticket?? You are obviously a vindictive, petty, small person, allhaileris, who seems to have nothing better to do than "out" others. Have you considered applying for a job with the McCain campaign? You could be their Alaska scum skimmer.....digging thru court and other records to "out" anyone who does not support the Palin/McCain ticket! You and your ilk make me sick to my stomach.

Now I suppose you'll look up my records, if you havn't done so already. I'll save you the trouble!

    1/98 - parking citation - $10
    7/98 - speeding - $36
    4/01 - speeding - $72
    1/03 - speeding - $36

That's right, allhaileris......another scofflaw! I suppose YOU have never had even a citation, right? You must be so perfect!

longtime_alaskan.......I do not currently live in Alaska. Left in '04 after 25 years there. SO WHAT?!

Next vice president? You have NOT been paying attention sir or madam! And after Obama's win over the hapless McCain, he has increased his lead another 2 points, now at 6 points!!

It is all but over, folks!

Why is it that posters think that if you are not for Palin you are for Obama? Did it ever occur to anyone that this really isn't a two party system and some people may not like either of them?

The facts about Palin just keep getting more bizarre, day by day! From the Los Angeles Times, in part.....

"Soon after Sarah Palin was elected mayor of the foothill town of Wasilla, Alaska, she startled a local music teacher by insisting in casual conversation that men and dinosaurs coexisted on an Earth created 6,000 years ago -- about 65 million years after scientists say most dinosaurs became extinct -- the teacher said."

If Palin is so dumb how did she get a gas line going in less than two years after the political geniuses who preceded her failed for 25 years? Also, how did she get the oil-companies to pay more royalties?

roadtrip, what gas line??? All that has happened so far is a governor backed giveaway of millions of dollars to a foriegn company with no promise of ever building a gas line, much less actually delivering gas to market.

So, are you are against the gas line or are you berating Palin for not being able to push it past the 79,251 federal bureaucrats who's job it is to stop development. Think about the concept of "getting it going". With out people who are willing to take risks do you know what kind of place Alaska would be? Well, I will tell you. It would be the kind of place where nothing happens and people sit around and complain all the time.

I'm all for a gas line, I just don't believe it will happen under that particular plan. It was nothing more than the government once again giving a large sum of money to private interests, at public expense, with no guarantee of return on investment.

Though I did not attend the rally I very much agree with them that Sarah Palin should not have stopped cooperating with the Troopergate investigation. Nor should she have gone along with the many ways in which the Republicans are trying to do a cover-up. That she did shows me that she lacks the necessary integrity to be governor let alone vice president.
