Navy Seaman Recruit Stephen J. Lippold, son of Christine and Dean M. Lippold of North Pole, recently completed an eight-week U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Lippold is a 2008 graduate of Hutchison High School.

Western Washington University student Anthony Tomsich, son of James Tomsich and Carla Susanne Tomsich of Fairbanks, received a $1,000 Horizon Bank Scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The Horizon Bank Scholarship is awarded to juniors and seniors in the College of Business and Economics who demonstrate scholastic achievement. Preference is given to varsity athletes.

Tomsich, a senior, is majoring in accounting. He serves as captain of the WWU cross country team and plans to become a certified public accountant or investment banker after graduating from Western.

Brendan LaBelle-Hamer was named a resident assistant for the 2008-2009 academic year for the Office of Student Life at Saint Michael’s College, Colchester, Vt., where he is a sophomore engineering major.

He is the son of Brendan and Nettie LaBelle-Hamer of Fairbanks.

Catrina Nadja Vroman, a student at Pacific Lutheran University, Tacoma, Wash., was named to the dean’s list for achieving a 3.5 or higher grade-point average for the 2008 spring term.

She is the daughter of Robert and Patricia Vroman of Salcha.

A 2007 graduate of Ben Eielson High School, Vroman is pursuing degrees in theater and English at PLU.
