ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- A 5-year-old child is being treated at a Nome hospital after being flown there from Little Diomede Island.
The Alaska Air National Guard has not released the name and condition of the child.
The Guard says it responded to an urgent request for help Wednesday.
Only helicopters can land on the island and no civilian choppers were available.
Rescuers from Kulis Air National Guard Base in Anchorage responded in an HH-60 Pavehawk helicopter at about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday.
They were accompanied by an HC-130 Hercules plane, which twice refueled the helicopter along the way.
Rescuers arrived at the island at about 6:30 p.m. and flew the child to Norton Sound Regional Hospital.

Hope all goes well for this little one. Alaskans are blessed with having those emergency rescue personnel to respond.
A little off subject, but being this is a child, thought parents out there should know that there is a rise of canker sores inside the mouths of babies/toddlers, preschoolers, and k-3 grades. Comes from putting their hands and play objects inside their mouths. Have been told by the doctors that it's a form of hand/foot disease. Please if your child is having issues with eating, drinking, sores, and high fevers - get them checked out. These canker sores will come and go and can last up to 2 weeks. According to the doctor, if one child has it and touches something that another picks up and puts in mouth, it will spread.
thank you for the helpful info!
