BETHEL -- Bethel police say officers shot and killed a man who pointed a rifle at them.

Thirty-four-year-old Evan E. Williams was killed Friday night.

Police say they were called to a home in response to a report of a distraught man.

They said Williams came onto the home's porch brandishing a rifle.

Police ordered him to drop the gun but say he pointed the rifle at an officer.

Williams was shot and rushed to the Bethel Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police contacted Alaska State Troopers and requested that the state agency conduct an investigation into the shooting.

Police say Williams likely had been drinking alcohol.

Don't point a gun unless you intend to use it... Police did their job.
