Enthusiastic crowd greets Palin in Fairbanks

FAIRBANKS — Gov. Sarah Palin offered many of the same lines Wednesday at her welcome home rally that are fast becoming known as her standard.
They were delivered in a conversational tone that connected with the first Alaska audience she’s had since becoming Sen. John McCain’s running mate for vice president.
But she didn’t mention telling Congress “Thanks, but no thanks, for that Bridge to Nowhere,” as she did in other speeches.
Speaking to several thousand at the Alaska Aerofuel hangar in Fairbanks, she was a little hoarse from a steady week and a half stumping across America for McCain-Palin 08.
“Everywhere we’re going, the response really has been overwhelming,” Palin told cheering Alaskans. She said she’s been telling people the enthusiasm in Alaska will be hard to beat.
“I knew the coldest state would give us the warmest welcome,” she said. “Thank you, so much. ... It’s like family.”
Palin’s husband, Todd, joined her on-stage, along with daughters Piper and Willow, who held baby Trig. She noted in her brief remarks, which were about 20 minutes long, that the family would attend son Track’s deployment ceremony today in Fairbanks. He is going to Iraq with the Stryker Brigade out of Fort Wainwright.
The governor has been criticized recently for her failure to deviate much from lines that have changed hardly at all from her speech accepting the vice-presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention last week. Those lines were all present in Fairbanks, too, albeit with words in between that bonded her with the audience.
“America’s gotten to know a lot more about Alaska,” she said. “They know up here, it’s a snowmachine, not a snowmobile. And they know that in Alaska, like that old bumper sticker says, ‘Alaska, where men are men and women win the Iditarod.’”
She said the campaign has been generating excitement about Alaska’s oil and gas reserves, with crowds chanting “Drill, baby, drill.”
Palin told Fairbanks that she couldn’t wait for them to meet John McCain.
“He served America in good times and in bad,” she said. “He knows what it takes to overcome great challenges. He’s the only man in this race who has got what it takes. He is amazing, friends.”
She went on to speak about the war in Iraq and McCain’s commitment to troops, offering a line she’s used before. “As a mother of one of those troops, that’s exactly the kind of man I want as commander in chief,” Palin said. “We understand that there is a time for politics, and a time for leadership, a time to campaign and a time to put your country first. And that’s what John McCain has done.”
In touting McCain, Palin offered another familiar phrase as to how she thinks about the choice before voters this fall. “In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. Then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change,” she said.
She mentioned the state’s luxury jet, purchased by former Gov. Frank Murkowski, and said simply, “It’s sold.”
But, the governor also asked Fairbanks not to think her hypocritical for commenting on the private plane after stepping off the McCain-Palin jet she arrived on.
The crowd offered tremendous cheers when Palin reminded the Alaskans that she had returned some of the state’s surplus back to the people who “can spend that money better than government can spend it for you.” Alaskans who met residency requirements will receive a $1,200 resource rebate starting Friday, on top of an annual Permanent Fund Dividend payment of more than $2,000.
The governor spoke with authority on energy issues, promising to drill for energy independence while expanding nuclear and renewable resources. Money spent now on foreign oil would be reinvested to build America’s economy.
She cut those remarks a little short.
“I feel like I’m preaching to the choir,” she said. “You guys already know this. We’ve got a reform agenda for America. That’s what we’re going to run on, guys.”
Palin said she is honored to serve as Alaska’s governor.
“You have placed great faith in me,” she said. “I promise that I will do my best to make Alaskans proud in the weeks to come. And I will ask you to help me. Let us work together. Let us elect John McCain. He is a friend of Alaska.”
Palin’s speech ended to cheers and a super-charged blast of confetti that rivaled a balloon launch.
Alaska Republican Party spokesman McHugh Pierre estimated the crowd to be at least 3,000 strong. A little more than half packed tightly into the Alaska Aerofuel hangar; the remainder clustered just outside the hangar.

Go Palin!!
Go Team Obama!!!!!!!
Bring my brother home from Iraq - so he can enjoy some of his life while he still has it!
Oh, McCain, too. You've got my vote!!
cancergirl (quite the name) check this one out:

Thank you Sarah Palin. You have risen above the childish behavior of Obama. After all, he is running for president, and yet he has become humiliated by you. Please hang in there, and pray for endurance. For you are being tested. I pray that you pass the test.
From a supporter in California
Yeah - seen it, but you see I talk to my brother and some of his friends, all soldiers, and nothing you say and no videos online can change the truth/details they have to tell. That war is wrong! It's gone on far to long, and our men are coming home with serious problems.... and not much to help them. I am a lover not a fighter - and I have no desire to bicker with you on the matter - but I will always stand up for my little brother, who joined to support his country - yet is getting the raw end of the deal right now. I want a president who is not WAR hungry - period. That's my opinion - hell yeah! Though I respect you for having and voicing yours!
Cancergirl - is just a name, I have cancer and fighting it well, and cancer is also my zodiac sign. - but yor name is cool too. :)
timmyjoe - you better pray.
Amazing how many junk emails I get passed that talk about the "extreme muslims" and the jihad.
Apparently some of us have our own "extreme views" and own jihad right here in whitebread America.
Whacko.
Hmmm...nobody in their right mind "wants" war...but war happens. There is more truth to what the young man in that video has to say than opponants of the war will admit. My husband was on the streets of Samara as part of a six man team...that's it..five other soldiers and my husband and larger teams of Iraqi commandos... not everything is good there...but there is much more good than gets talked about..so don't put a blanket, "All soldiers" Ms. Cancergirl..because you do NOT speak for all soldiers....
I'm a lifetime Alaskan, born and raised in Fairbanks. I'm currently in Baghdad. I've seen it all. I'll be mailing my vote in for Obama. I wish more of you would do some research on the candidates and not vote for someone because she's "Alaskan", a woman, or any of the other multitude of silly reasons. Just tired of the lies and corruption.
Kudos From Anchorage
Well done Fairbanks you did a great job welcoming home Governor Palin.
Any city would have liked to have the party, but none could have done it any better.
Go Palin
Just got back from the rally. Where were the throngs of Obama supporters that was going to be there? Couple dozen weirdos-quiet as church mice. All talk-no walk.
Stuttgart - thanks for your service first of all. but i just dont get the soldiers that are for obama.
Yes, he might get us out of there faster, but weakened, and with emboldened enemies. But its the larger picture that we need to look at.
obama is a socialist at best, more likely a card carrying marxist. He will crush the economy with the weight of his tax increases and his increased and accelerated federal bloat. He has vowed to slash troop numbers, cut spending on weapons systems and equipment for (you) the troops, at a time when countries like Iran, China and Russia have massively increased military spending. Russia is building ships at a rate not seen since the cold war and I assure you its not for shipping or humanitarian efforts. Also you as a soldier should know value of the second amendment and the great equalizer that a firearm can be. Would you want alaskans to be defenseless in their homes like people in Obamas chicago are? What about teaching sex ed to kindergartners? You think 5 year olds should be in school talking about homosexual sex and masturbation? Look up the curriculum that he's supported, that's exactly what its calling for.
McCain is imperfect, but still lightyears ahead of a inexperienced socialist.
(BTW - still no takers on offering ANY proof that Obama is not a socialist, in fact none of the horrifying Facts above will be challenged with facts either. I'll be called names, told to go read a book, or maybe have my words ignored cause my handle is too scary, but the one thing that holds true every time, No reply.)
Yes, the personal attacks continue on those of us who CHOOSE not to support Sarah. I wonder if anyone will mention tomorrow that Biden's son is also getting deployed to Iraq next month?
Bidens son is going to Iraq as a lawyer-hardly qualifies as being in harms way.
There are thousands of DEMOCRAT military members proudly serving their country and yet still against this war, this administration, and proudly flying their flag. And yes, we will vote for Obama in November.
Go Obama/Biden.
Gergen on CNN said Palin was using a teleprompter at the Fairbanks greeting. Is that true? Can't be. Surely she can talk to the homeys without the Rove Boys telling her what to say.
Rooftopvoter, no one responds to your posts because you tell lies.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/11/us/pol...
Was odd tonight turning on CNN to see, "Live in Fairbanks..." interesting to see who got to stand behind Palin during her speech.
McCain has consistently opposed veteran's benefits. Every soldier does not have an heiress to pay their medical expenses. Why would Palin or Alaskans align themselves with someone who would likely expand the war to neighboring countries? Palin knows foreign policy because Alaska is next to Russia??!! from one who lived there for 25 years and knows the truth as opposed to what she says in her speeches.
Right wing extremists have it way over on the left wing liberals when it comes to being rude, crude, obnoxious, name calling and usually wrong. You want proof that your rants are wrong but you haven't shown any proof you are right. I am still undecided but you guys are way out in right field, do you ever read what you write?
Riza said "Hmmm...nobody in their right mind "wants" war...but war happens."
Partially correct, Riza. Nobody in their right mind does want war, which essentially means that George Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld were (and still are) not in their right mind!
War does just not "happen", Riza...and especially not in the case of the war in Iraq. That war was started willfully by the so-called leaders of our government under false pretenses.
Perhaps Rooftop, you should take a better look at Sen. Obama's position on the 2nd amendment. He's not the big bad wolf coming to take your gun away.
McCain has sold out to win. That is more than imperfect. The real McCain left the show a long time ago.
I would like proof that YOU are not a socialist. Perhaps you are one of the socialist plants here to spread disinformation to create a divisive atmosphere that will be bring down America? Perhaps? Prove that you are not.
Thanks to all of the Sen. Obama supporters who came out tonight to show everyone that not all of us are blind sheep! You are true Americans for exercising your rights in a respectful, civil manner.
So what's up with Palin as Rosie the Riveter? You gotta be kidding me!! Better go get your lipstick beauty queen!!
hundred bucks says bidens son will come back and run for office touting his veteran status, even though like fox said he's a lawyer. He's probably over there just looking to prosecute our troops or make sure we don't hurt anyones feelings like a good liberal would do.
hilgeinak - yes thats true, but we know its a small percentage compared with soldiers against the socialist Obama.
Akchick, do tell. Who was behind Sarah? Oh, I know that Karl Rove and the Republican Party Machine wrote her speech and were *virtually* behind her, but I assume you mean there were interesting people behind her on stage, on camera?
Right wing, left wing... They are all wings from the same bird.
The interview tomorrow on ABC hopefully will require Palin to speak on her own, if that's even possible. Her speech is strictly controlled by the McBush folks to avoid any embarrassment. When we do listen to her speak on her own, like from church, she babbles on about this war being God's Will. What are her views on separation of church and state anyhow? Does she not read her own Bible and know it's a sin to lie? To also sit there and listen to a preacher spread hated towards the jewish people, and not get up and leave, tells me she has some pretty radical views. I'm a Catholic, and I would get up and walk out if my Pastor went on in such a manor. People need to THINK for themselves and not follow the blind histeria that's behind Palin. She's not running for President! McCain is and he offers no real change for this country, only a trip further down the disasterous path the Bush administration has had us on for 8 years.
well said, hilgeinak.
I watched the speech; I didn't attend the rally. And this is, essentially, what she said " .... it's great to be home, Alaska is wonderful, McCain McCain McCain, support the troops, we sold the jet, drill now, bring change to Washington."
Honestly, I was hoping for something more than an approximately 20 minute soundbite from McCain's Trophy Vice (thank you Maureen Dowd for that wonderful term).
I want to know: What are her OWN thoughts, opinions, ideas, not some rehashed Republican rhetoric. At least the McCain handlers had the good sense to tell her to keep her yap shut about the "thanks but no thanks, Congress" line she's been trying to pull about the Bridge to Nowhere.
gg Sarah! ? has there been smearing here also?
So if there were only 3000 folks there, that must mean that only about .4% of the Alaska population bothered to go see Palin. Given that her speech was hyped as the first Alaska appearance since her nomination, seems like a pretty small crowd of supporters to me. Perhaps they let the dissenters in to fill in the gaps in the crowd for the TV cameras? Does the 3000 include the pep band and the politicians on stage?
Good Speech!! I am glad that Sarah didn't keep on about the bridge to nowhere, and she seemed very "down to earth" like we all know her to be.
I almost couldn't see Gov. Palin for the shine off of Cookies head! LOL
glow
pull your head out. It started at 430 before most people get out of work. You may consider pulling out a map and see how large Alaska is, kinda hard to make it in from Nome. If you want to say something intelligent you could say that 10% of the population of Fairbanks was there. However, I would like to thank you, you are a fine representation of Obama supporters, back to the drawing board.
(This comment was removed by the Newsminer.com staff. Please see our User Agreement for further information.)
There weren't "thousands" of people there. Probably about a thousand.
really, was is hard to count with them moving around or do you have a list of names?

I wish everybody happiness and good-luck, because we're all gonna need it. ...I usually vote NO for President.
If Dr.X and Mr.Goldfinger installed me as President I'd telecommute from my motorhome and sailboat far away from WARshington District of Criminals..
Senator Mike Gravel has a good idea here--->

Peace on Earth first, then tourists from other planets will be more likely to stop and be friendly.
Sounds like you're really trying to bait someone there curtj.
AKLOWN, good point about Nome. And maybe Ketchikan, since they don't have their bridge and all. Okay, how is this: about 100,000 folks reside in the Fairbanks North Star Borough. Less than 3000 folks came to the welcome rally. A stickler for details would say we should delete the pep band, the politicians who had to be there, the secret service, the local troopers, the local police, and the EMS. And the dissenters, of course. The kids--and there looked to be lots of them--are mostly too young to have a considered opinion about whether to support Alaska's hockey mom/pitbull/barracuda. But just to make the math easier, let's run the statistic again. This is better, you'll agree! A whopping 3% of the entire Fairbanks North Star Borough turned out to support their rising star! So what, are the other 97% too rational? Too independent? Too smart? Too dazed? Too tired from working two jobs to pay the fuel bill, property taxes, and federal income taxes? Too upset about sending another crop of young people off to a senseless war tomorrow? I, myself, would have watched the circus on CNN. Alas! Sarah vetoed the line item in the state budget that would have expanded the rural telecommunications infrastructure out our way.

From MSNBC: "This is Palin's first venture away from McCain and his advisers, although several of the campaign's staff accompanied her to Alaska. She did not interact with reporters during the flight."
Her speech:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/21134540/vp/...
Listen for yourself folks. A long flight from DC to Montana and then 3.5 hours to Fairbanks. Great opportunity for her to introduce herself to the press and to the American people. And what does she do, not talk to them at all. Who is this person???
It was nice to go see it. I've never been to one and it was worth all the standing and waiting. The hanger was packed. We couldn't see how far out the door people were standing but it was quite a few. It was enough that when the plane came it, we could only see the very top of the rear wing. I don't think I could have done as well after conducting speeches in the morning in VA and flying to Fairbanks. When I fly back home from the east coast I'm smoked. She did well I thought. There was a very small group of protesters. We only heard them for a few seconds as Gov Palin's group of vehicles passed. They packed up very quickly and left right after. If McCain supporters were in small numbers, the Obama supporters there to protest or voice their opinions were in microscopic numbers. Overall glad we went for the experience alone and that both sides kept it civil. Everyone has their opinion and their right to have them. I know who I'm voting for and made the decision based off what I believe is right for the country and my family. To me, after 21 years in the service, the one question I ask myself is - would I trust the person to lead me, my son, or daughter. If the answer is yes, then I have my answer.
Thanks for the opportunity to attend. We'd do it again!
Sorry I was typing above your head, AKLOWN. I suppose we could look at her speech another way. She spoke for 20 minutes, using a teleprompter. There were about 3000 people there. So she invested about 1/2 second of time into each person. Wow. I bet those supporters feel really special that Sarah spent so much time with them. Especially since most of them had to wait in line for hours just to get in to get their 1/2 second each.
I went to see her swear in. It was much better and there wasn't any secret service or metal detectors!!!!
the only reason I didnt go is because I was nervous about the no water rule I heard they had going. I have a toddler plus Im pregnant. I didnt want to wait hours like that! Besides, I saw her at the GOv picnic last July. She was awesome! Im upset that the radio didnt have her on LIVE, as promised!!!
For someone so antiPalin (glow) you sure do spend alot of time following every move she makes and arguing about her. As far as the two jobs to pay the fuel bill comment, don't worry, I get my $1200 per family member check from her on Friday to take care of it. If you are so against AK citizens and Palin, move on down to Illinois and follow what your man is doing there.
Ok. I'm starting to believe what I had thought was nonsense; that most Palin bashers here on DNM are not Alaskan residents and are active members of the Obama campaign. Nor are the ones claiming to be military or relatives of military members really so. Baghdad? Really? The probability of that is tiny.
I know liberals think most citizens are too stupid to be Democrats when only presented with the complicated truth, and thus liberals think it is ok to lie to citizens to get them to join their side, but please stop being lame and hateful.
Wow! And we wonder what is wrong with America! Such mud throwing on both sides!! And so many half truths. First the borough is larger than many states. Second people have lives and other things to do. And third it is not the showing up to this political rally and that political rally that is important, it is showing up to vote! Maybe if there wasn't so much bull crap being thrown by both sides maybe people could actually learn and/or care what each nominee stands for and their plans for the US, giving voters the chance to make an educated vote. If people spent half the amount of time they spend throwing lies at each other learning the facts and discussing solutions like adults, we might be able to bring change but until then, I highly doubt it.
Wow, keep the stats comming. What percentage of flag waving, red blooded Americans have Muslim names? What percentage of US presidents have aligned themselves with Anti American preachers?
What is going on here?
I am 39 year Fairbanks, Alaska resident, a life-long member of the Republican Party and have in the past been a strong supporter of Sarah Palin efforts to reform politics in Alaska.
But what is happening now is like watching an episode of the “Twilight Zone”.
Sarah Palin says she has cleaned up the Republican Party Politics in Alaska, but I now see that the Republican Party Chairmen Randy Ruedrich, Senator Ted Stevens, former State Senator Ralph Seekins, Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Enron’s Alaska Senator Drue Pearce (1) have all now endorsed Palin for Vice President.
(1)
http://www.house.gov/inslee/docs/pdfs/en...
One has to wonder if VECO’s Bill Allen, Evergreen Resource’s Andrew Lundquist (the Farbanksian and former Sen. Ted Steven’s and Frank Murkowski staffer who went on to head Dick Cheney’s “Energy Policy Task Force”) and Exxon will be next in line to endorse Sarah Palin?.
It’s like Al Capone’s gang were endorsing Eliot "the Untouchable" Ness.
What happened, Sarah?
Did someone make you “An Offer You Couldn’t Refuse”?
Sarah: "America IS ready for some fresh air".
.
Stakholder Finially an intelligent arguement (thank you). Two possibilities, maybe they now realize she'll soon be swinging a bigger hammer. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Posibility two, putting her in the White House will keep her out of thier financial playground. While the cat's away.... Just a thought, again thanks for the intelligent arguement.
Bring on the Pig with Lipstick,
I know she can't win in November!
alaskaway.......that was original.....thanks for wasting 5 seconds of my life from reading it
Glow, your numbers are a little off. According to 2007 Census Bureau estimates, the population of the city of Fairbanks is 34,540. The population of Fairbanks and vicinity is 82,840. This makes the percent 8.7%
By the way the city of Fairbanks is about 33 square miles and Fairbanks North Star Borough is roughly the size of the state of New Jersey at 7,444 square miles. I would say that 3,000 people INSIDE the hangar is not bad at all. I wonder how many more were waiting in line OUTSIDE the hangar that were not counted.
Oh and another thing - a borough in Alaska is similar to a county in the lower 48. If you are going to try and pretend like you are from here, at least get your facts straight. Everyone in Alaska knows that Fairbanks isn't even close to 100,000 people.
Well put Denali!!!!
DenaliSews-lower 48ers are so obvious I would think they would give up.
I am not a McCain/Palin supporter but I went and I am glad that I did. I am curious as to how many others of "us" were in the crowd, who went out of sincere respect and curiosity, even absent the intention to vote for the Republican ticket. It isn't often one is presented with this opportunity - especially in Fairbanks! There were definitely a couple thousand people there, by the way. I was encouraged by the turnout - it would be nice if this election spurred increased participation in the process.
P.S.
Didn't former Alaska Senator Ralph Seekins introduce legislation that could have jailed whistle-blowers, like Sarah Palin.
Alaska Sen. Ralph Seekins introduced SB 186/187 in 2005, which aimed to punish and silence people seeking to expose government corruption by making it a serious crime, punishable by up to a year in jail and a $10,000 fine, for revealing ethics complaints to the media against elected officials like Republican Party Chairmen Randy Ruedrich.
And now Ralph Seekins is endorsing Sarah Palin run for Vice President?
.
Stakeholder: "Sarah Palin says she has cleaned up the Republican Party Politics in Alaska, but I now see that the Republican Party Chairmen Randy Ruedrich, Senator Ted Stevens, former State Senator Ralph Seekins, Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Enron’s Alaska Senator Drue Pearce (1) have all now endorsed Palin for Vice President."
xxx
Who do you espect them to vote for??? Obama??!!!
I thought the rally was great and I enjoyed myself. Just a little speckle of protesters but at least they were little kids who basically had no idea what they were chanting.
GLOW - I don't know of anyone working two jobs to support their fuel bill. First of all, if you can't support your fuel bill, get a better paying job and don't buy unnecessary items, ie., cell phones, big screen TV's, computers, and don't live in a place that costs a fortune to live in.
Alaska's lipstick gal WILL win the vote in November, along with McCain. I can't wait for January! MCCAIN/PALIN 08!
"Stakeholder: "Sarah Palin says she has cleaned up the Republican Party Politics in Alaska, but I now see that the Republican Party Chairmen Randy Ruedrich, Senator Ted Stevens, former State Senator Ralph Seekins, Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Enron’s Alaska Senator Drue Pearce (1) have all now endorsed Palin for Vice President."
xxx"
Who do you espect them to vote for??? Obama??!!!
No I don't expect these disgraced Republicans to vote for Obama.
I expected that they would be holding their heads in shame!
Stan, I have nothing but admiration for the women and men of the military and the sacrifices they make on our behalf. I sincerely hope our military presence in Iraq is making a positive difference. However, their profoundly patriotic service doesn't change the fact that Bush justified the war using faulty intelligence, that he drastically overestimated the threat Iraq posed to the United States, and that he brushed aside evidence that contradicted his perception of this threat.
If Bush felt we needed to wage war to protect the United States, he picked the wrong country to invade. How about North Korea, which developed a nuclear weapon while we were off in Iraq? Or Iran, which threatens to do the same? It's hard to believe Bush really thought Iraq was the number one threat to America.
If Bush's goal was to liberate an oppressed people, why did he not send the military to Darfur? Why haven't we shipped the military off to Myanmar, Tibet, or Cuba?
"Freedom is always worth the price," says the soldier in the video. But doling out freedom at gunpoint comes at a major cost indeed, to our pocketbooks, to our military, and especially innocent Iraqis, whose death toll has been much higher than our soldiers', and who now face the threat of Al Qaeda in Iraq, which came into existence as a direct result of the US invasion. The fact of the matter is that we cannot afford to serve up freedom via military invasion to all the "unfree" nations of the world.
No president should rule out the option of war should the situation require it. But no president should ever start a war as recklessly or on grounds as tenuous as President Bush did with Iraq. We need a president who is committed to peaceful resolution of conflicts if at all possible. We need to reestablish America's good name abroad and strengthen our relationships with our allies. Republicans have shown an alarming ineptitude in these areas. Time for some real change.
Howie - I'm sure glow keeps track of Palin so he/she can make educated decisions about whom she will be supporting in November, unlike the majority of people on here...
MEL1776 - Why is it so hard to believe that there are people in Alaska that do not like Palin and are supporting Obama? I'm born and raised here and I just don't care for her. I also think Obama is refreshing, inspiring, amazing and just what this country needs. I am definitely not expecting everyone to agree with me, but I know there are plenty of people out there that do and yes, they are born and bred Alaskans!!!
AKLOWN - Let me ask you a question: Do you really hate everyone that might look Muslim, sound Muslim or have a Muslim name? If you do, then I feel sorry for you that you have that closed of a mind.
Here is a brief recap of her speech --
"We've toured the country. Track is being deployed. I love Alaska. The kids still aren't back in school. You'll find your way by the north star (OMG how lame). Drill. Shake. Drill. We're 'mavericks'. John McCain is old. The war is just (prepared by McBush speech writers). John McCain remains old. I love the military. Some candidates use change to promote their careers while other candidates use their careers to promote change (her second favorite McBush line to 'I told the Congress thanks but no thanks for that bridge to nowhere'). Everyone in Alaska should love me because it really is all about me. I sold the plane because it is all about me. Alaska is on a fiscally conservative path (but I charge the state to live at home). Todd and I are going out to buy our plasmas on Friday. Drill drill drill as if your life depends on it because it does. We're going to secede from the Union and I will be queen. Because it is all about me. We live in Alaska (DUH). Drill drill drill. Our jobs suck right now but drilling will make jobs better. Help me help you. John McCain is old. I'm out of touch."
So there you have it folks...and so it goes.
HEY SARAH -- YOU'RE PROBABLY TOO GOOD TO READ THE DNM BUT WHY DON'T YOU TELL US WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO DO IN DC AND TELL US WHAT MAKES YOU SO READY FOR THE JOB?? LAY OFF THE CANNED SPEECHES AND TELEPROMPTERS AND SPEAK LIKE YOU HAVE ACTUAL THOUGHTS OF YOUR OWN (do you?).
Can we have two comment areas, one for the normal people and another for the socio/eco/entitlement/pagan/liberals. That way I don't have to siff through all their junk to read something actually worthwhile.
You go Girl!!!...WhooHoo First Dude!!!!
Blessings to the Palin family.
Give all a hug.
Sarah:
Be the perfect mosquito protection for Alaska.
Keep the Mosquito Repellent handy.
Stay true, walk softly, stay alert, be prepared, your eye on the game, the kitchen is waiting..
M1000 - If you flip the cards there would be the normal people and the extreme conservative/religious fanatics/big oil loving side. You have to play both sides, it isn't one or the other in America.
Palin explains her actions in Ruedrich case
[What is not mentioned in this article was that Ted Steven's and Frank Murkowski's former staffer, Andrew Lundquist, who went on to head Dick Cheney's "Energy Policy Taskforce" (Lundquist has refused to testify before congress about the Taskforce's talks with Enron.
Lundquist was former Fairbanksian who became an Energy Lobbyist after the fall of Enron and went on the Board of Directors of "Evergreen Resouces"; the company that had retained former Alaska State Senator Scott Ogen with a $40,000 dollar "consulting fee" to get Coal Bed Methane leases in the Mat-Su Valley without public hearings.]

WASILLA -- Sarah Palin never thought of herself as an investigator.

In his private messages to Parker, Randy Ruedrich didn't try to hide his disdain for Sen. Scott Ogan, a fellow Republican from the Palmer area, who has taken credit for the legislation establishing the coal bed methane industry in Alaska and who, for a time, was on Evergreen's payroll as a $40,000-a-year consultant. Ogan quit the consultant job Sept. 30, 2003, under pressure and quit the Legislature last month in the face of a recall election.
=============================
On Aug. 27, 2003, Ruedrich forwarded to Parker from his work computer an e-mail he had earlier sent from home to Jim Clark and Dennis Fradley, Murkowski's communications director at the time. In his message, Ruedrich runs through a series of "myths" about coal bed methane, such as the risk to water contamination, and dismisses most
as wrong.
But when it came to the "myth" that Ogan "is in bed" with the
industry, Ruedrich wrote: "The fact is true." And he said that Ogan's
"assertive support" of the local control law, including a debate he had with a conservation lobbyist during legislative hearings, "looks very questionable."
to be continued
"Just a little speckle of protesters but at least they were little kids who basically had no idea what they were chanting."
I'd say there were 40-50 protesters. Several of the "little kids" were grandparents over 60. The only chant was brief, one word, and positive: "Obama". I suspect the 4 or 5 real little kids there understood that just fine. On the other hand, I think it's pretty clear who didn't, DrillANWR.
A couple decades ago I pedaled my bicycle to the airport to see President Reagan and Pope John Paul II meet. This was by far the most historic event I attended growing up. Today, I took my 12 yr old daughter and 10 year old son to welcome home Governor Palin if for no other reason than to give my kids a memory that will last a lifetime.
As Sarah got off the plane, my kids screamed as if the Beattles had landed in Fairbanks. Throughout her speech, when the crowd cheered, my kids did the same. As a father, I was proud to have been a part of this rally.
I want to thank the Obama people for keeping their protest civil and for giving me an oppirtunity to teach my kids about he right to protest and peaceful assembly. I also explained how fortunate we are to be able to vote in this country.
As a person that was OUTSIDE the hangar, I can attest to the crowd being around 3000. Thank you Sarah and thank you Fairbanks for putting on a good show.
M1000-Ummm, I'm more ancient-age Pagan than Christian, but I'll likely vote for McCain and Palin in November (gee I wonder why the months are named as they are?) as their views are closer to mine on national defense and economics (national level issues). Read some Robert Kaplan.
Now if only UAF offered classes on the Ancient Greek or Old English languages.
By the way, thanks Nanooks for the music while we waited for the Palins.
Will the REAL Sarah Plain please STAND UP and speak out about the corruption in Alaska?
Alaska Republican Party Chairmen Ruedrich's "a hole in our conservative wall" in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough.
From:
http://dwb.adn.com/front/story/5572779p-...
....And when Sutton resident Johnny Kirby wrote [Alaska Republican Party Chairmen] Ruedrich to say that while he was "very conservative" (in bold type) and generally in favor of development, he didn't like the conflict-of interest "shenanigans" of [Alaska State Senator] Ogan or the "trust me" attitude of Tanigawa, whom he compared to a used-car dealer.
Ruedrich forwarded the message to Parker, saying it represented "a hole in our conservative wall" in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. "Scott is not doing himself any favors," Ruedrich added, then appeared to criticize Tanigawa too. "Trust me is not it either."
Long before she [Palin] found those e-mails on Ruedrich's [State] computer, Palin came to fear that she and the commission would lose all credibility in the Valley.
She attended many of the same meetings as Ruedrich, she said, and tried to be neutral. She said she was upset by his promotion of the industry.
But the final blow came when the commissioners were in a meeting in Anchorage in October, and she asked Seamount, who had firsthand experience with coal bed methane as a geologist in the Rocky Mountain states, to represent the commission on an Anchorage radio call-in program.
A few minutes later, Seamount charged into her office. "No, no, no, no, this isn't right. He should not be doing this," Seamount told her.
"And I was telling Dan, 'I thought you called in, I thought you were talking.' And he said, 'No, Randy heard you asking me to call in so he went over to his office and he just called in, and he's on the radio right now.' So I turned it on, and went, 'Oh, no.' "
Ruedrich sounded like he was speaking for the whole AOGCC [Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation commission] and the Department of Natural Resources, but mainly, she said, "it sounded on the air like he [Ruedrich] was speaking for 'Evergreen Resources'."
.
wildchildinak- There are likely about 20% of Alaskans who dislike Palin, but way, way many more commenters here attempting to bash her and her family and who only started commenting here after her nomination and who seem ignorant of Alaskan life (and even more ignorant of military life).
As recently as two days ago I was mocking some of the conservative commenters for believing the same thing, but the evidence keeps stacking up. If it is true it will be the second time I have changed my opinion based on comments here.
Mel, I don't dislike Palin or even necessarily disapprove of her work as governor, but I don't want her as vice-president. I take it you base your 20% on recent approval ratings of Palin. But in the gubernatorial election, almost 51% of the electorate voted for her opponents. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is more or less satisfied with Palin as governor but supports Obama for the presidency (and would consider voting for a Democrat again in the next gubernatorial election).
So I was wondering, why are you all so anxious and ready to go out to vote for the next President/Vice President again? As I recall our votes DO NOT count. Does anyone remember the 2000 elections? No, not the scandal with the Florida voting issue and Bush's brother... no, it was about how we, the citizens of this land, DID NOT vote for Bush as our President. It was outrageous that he became the first President, ever, to become president AGAINST the popular vote... Are there other things on the ballot that I should be rushing out to vote for besides the next President/Vice President on that ballot? I no longer go out on that November day to cast a vote...I think I've missed something. Maybe I'm the only American who is not a member of the Electoral College and just don't know it. I'm not sure but I think there was another issue too, like the winner of the race is announced before the polls in Alaska close... hmmm...
I do have amnesia to so please do be cruel with your answers, just educational to help me get back on track.
A look back -- and forward -- at coal-bed methane development in the Mat-Su

MAT-SU -- Some Mat-Su residents are hanging up their activist battle gear after Texas-based Pioneer Natural Resources [formerly Evergreen Resources remember Lundquist was on the Board of Directors] announced Thursday its plans to relinquish all its shallow-gas holdings in the borough.
Legislative shake-up
When discussing coal-bed methane production in the Mat-Su, the subject of local legislators' involvement in the issue invariably comes up.
snip
In 1996, representatives Scott Ogan and Norm Rokeberg sponsored House Bill 394, which created the shallow-gas leasing program. It took the process a step further,
"limiting the ability of local governments to regulate CBM production".
After that bill's passage, Evergreen filed for local leases. Area property owners, after hearing their land had been leased, began researching coal-bed methane production activities Outside. At the same time, public discussions about a [Scott Ogen's $40,000] consulting job Ogan began with Evergreen Resources in 2001 heated up, and people clamored for Ogan to make a choice between working as a legislator or as a consultant.
During the spring legislative session, a bill originally sponsored by the Senate Resources Committee, chaired by Ogan, passed. House Bill 531 splits CBM development in developed areas of Mat-Su out of the over-the-counter shallow-gas leasing program and returns it to a state-initiated leasing system.
The bill's passage didn't put an end to concerns about development in the Mat-Su -- in fact, some Mat-Su residents claimed it further hindered Mat-Su residents because the changes did not apply to land already leased under the shallow-gas leasing program. Those leases would remain in existence indefinitely and could be sold or developed by other companies without being subject to the now-more-stringent rules.
"Over 10,000 properties and their values remain jeopardized by the 320,000 acres of existing leases not subject to a best-interest finding and other provisions of the new law," Friends of Mat-Su Board President Chris Whittington-Evans said in a June 8 e-mailed letter.
The new bill also did not halt the effort to place on the November general election ballot the question of whether or not to recall Ogan. That effort proceeded and was approved to go on the ballot in August, but Ogan halted the effort himself by resigning from the position after an Anchorage Superior Court judge ruled the recall could proceed to the ballot.

You may be interested to know that VECO's Chairmen Bill Allen was one of Alaska's Electoral College delegates to vote for George W. Bush for President in 2000.
Does that make you feel any better?
Hi folks,
Sarah up to now is an empty shirt. She is governor of our stae that is awash in money! Unemployment, trade deficit, heating oil, federal taxes, the economy, flat wages. Sarah where are you on the issues????
Alaska used to be left out of presidential politics - it was too far for them to come visit for so few votes but now Alaska is on the political map. Thanks Sarah for drawing attention to our State. This is cheaper than Frank Murkowski's PR plan he proposed. You are doing it all by yourself. You make us proud.
Today is 09/11/08. How soon we forget. Seven years after America was attacked on our soil since Pearl Harbor. We have not been attacked since then. Who do you think will keep us safer? Then vote for whomever you think will do that? Vote for the person who wants to negotiate with terriots so they will like us or someone who knows who terrorist's really are and what they want. And I really would like to keep my right to own my guns, just in case I will need them sometime in the future.
CPW
Great job! News-Miner / Rena Delbridge. Let us not forget what they did to us on 9/11 God Bless America!
Sarah is using the same lines over and over because she is not allowed to talk about the issues--because she doesn't know anything about them. The McCain/Palin campaign has yet to reveal any details about how they will reform government. Too bad most of America thinks this is a popularity contest, so they'll vote for the pretty VP candidate (who does not make policy) instead of the platform (or lack thereof) of the Presidential candidate. It's no wonder the U.S. is in decline.
Was turn coat Jim Whitaker there? His recommendation for Obama just goes to show you what Obama supporters are all about. Issues like Obama talks. I am going to give Americans everything they always wanted but won't raise taxes. Fairy tales can come true, now that's a policy.
CPW Alaskans better than anyone know what being attacked is about, remember what happen in the Aletuian Islands?
It is amazing how many people want to rain on Alaska's pride do to Govenor Palin's selection to the Vice Presidential slot on the GOP ticket.
Just remember the more these people try to dismiss Govenor Palin as a non player, the more desperate they seem.
Thank you for your refreshing campaign, from what I saw at the rally our young vibrant Govenor is on a huge roll, and will be hard to slow down.
anwrfriend-if there is an empty shirt in this election it's 0bama. He is ALL talk and has done NOTHING but run for office. Oh and I'm also a friend of ANWR...well at least its’ oil!
Sarah Palin is a religious fundamentalist, in fact she is a religious extremist.
If you care to remember, that type of person (i.e. stating that the war we fight is mandated by God, which really makes it a Holy War), is exactly what we as Americans are fighting to eliminate in the Middle East.
Somehow many seem to believe that if an Arab calls for a Holy War, we are justified to go out and assassinate that person, but if an American calls for a Holy War, we are justified to elect her to the Presidency (or thereabouts).
Sarah Palin's views on many issues are simply un-American.
So good to see Sarah back in Fairbanks! :) My friend Peigi got pics and did a blog entry - it's WONNERFUL!
Go McCain/Palin! I'm praying for your continued success!
;)
Being familiar with the conservative viewpoint - I agree with her on all issues! Pretty amazing huh?
Try this, for discussion: Palin is good for Alaska right now. Whether you are a staunch preservationist, or a pro-development drill drill driller, our governor will bring attention to Alaska and up the ante and discussion about issues that affect this state at the national level -- and we all know by now that Alaska is more or less at the mercy of national forces whether they be business or legislative (pro or anti-development).
OK. Yes. Our Governor also brings plenty of baggage to the table because this race is not about Alaska, but about the vice presidency. I understand that. But relentless perseveration of the candidates' apparent limitations or strengths changes nothing here. By now we have heard it all from the usual news sources, and from the amateur bloggers.
Trying to make lemonade from lemons, if that is how you see it, it can only benefit Alaska that a highly visible person is "putting Alaska on the map", a common refrain from both sides of the resource development issue. If we are tired of being treated like a colony then this exposure can only be a good thing. It should stimulate informed dialog about Alaska among Americans at-large.
I fear that preservationists actually like our quaint "colonial" status; while over-zealous developers would like us to be an independent nation. Both seem extreme to me. I would be happy to see Alaska treated as a peer among equals at the table with the other 49 states. Exposure of Alaska to the rest of the nation can only help in that. This race matters at many levels and I am not trying to minimize that, just offering another perspective.
Governor Palin has my vote....we lost our son in June of this year to a rogue wave in Australia (jeremyearnshaw.com) and Sarah took the time as governor to write a condolence letter. GO SARAH!
Two interesting things...one is that tne article no longer lists attendance at 3000, rather at "several thousand."
And it occurred to me this morning that SIX thousand people not only showed up to see Elton John, they PAID to see Elton John. Maybe there's hope for this place after all! ;)
About Obama !!
I finally found out what a Community Organizer is...someone who walks the neighborhood stapling fliers to telephone poles.
Why don't we just stop beating around the bush and elect Walt Disney as president already, all this "gushing" for some V.P. candidate that just happens to be from Alaska is sick.
Are you people ONLY voting for McCain because an Alaskan is his running mate? or is it because she TRIES to relate to "normal" families by saying PLANTED lines to take advantage of "normal" families, for a vote.
She is NOT a "normal" Alaskan, is she going to have to WORRY about HER heating bills this winter like MOST Alaskans will? NO. She has given her token (the other free money besides the dividend this year) to get you people to vote for her already so do not expect anything else from her.
Remember people, don't cross the line between respect and WORSHIP because after all Sarah Palin is NO Saint, even though some of you obviously see it different.
I'm just as excited as the next about Gov. Palin coming to visit, and the presidential race, but the news-miner couldn't print ANYTHING in rememberance of 9/11 today??
You can put lipstick on a community organizer, it's still only a community organizer!
GO SARAH! LET THEM HAVE IT LIKE WE KNOW YOU CAN AND WILL! MCCAIN AND YOU CERTAINLY HAVE OUR VOTES!
How were the people selected to stand behind her in frame of the CNN cameras?
We are Indecline, and it's worse than you think.
What will you people say when you're sitting in the cold dark, hungry, and those rich republicans you voted for are sitting in their multi-million dollar houses watching "American Idol" without a care in the world for the people that voted for them.
I'm not saying Obama is really any better but at least he's not trying to win you over with false claims like "oh, I'm just a "NORMAL" person, just like ALLLL the people I just happen to want to vote for me".
50% of the wealth in this country belongs to just 20% of the population, the McCain's included along with over 90% of the politicians in office. They are NOT your friend unless you have close to a million dollar bankroll, or more.
The suicide rate for American Soldiers has now surpassed the national rate for the general population of the U.S., but of course thats not an issue when governor Barb E. Doll is in town.
There is not one mention of the fact that American Soldiers are offing themselves at a faster rate than EVERYBODY ELSE IN THE COUNTRY and there is NO mention of it either from this paper and of course not from our illustrious governor, anybody that does not see how badly America is decaying is very ignorant not to mention being a part of the PROBLEM.
Sarah Palin is making real history for this country, she already has, when Sarah was nominated for V.P. the country was electrified, that the media attacked her immediately, shows who they really are, people who can make a differance always get a bad rap. We as Americans should recognize this, and not get drawn into the negativity, and yet we do. Obama has made many mistakes already, not picking Hilary, showing himself to be a male-shovanist-pig, and yet he claims he can change America for the better, I think he has lost his mind, and the direction he will take this country is suspect, more-so than John McCain, who knows how to make hard choices, even when it ruffles some feathers, running this country has never been a job for the weak, McCain has proven his bravery above all others in this campaign, he has proven his loyalty to America more than anyone else. John McCain has my respect as a soldier, and statesman. Sure he is old, but not out of touch. Sarah Palin won't be running the country, she will be refereeing the congress, she knows what she is up against with the good old boys there. You say she has'nt any experience with foriegn policy, she has dealt with the native communities in Alaska, near 200 clans, that are demanding and tough, tough as any foriegn country. Oh I was at the welcome home rally, it was great to see her, and tho her speach was short, it was to the point. I can,t wait to hear her debate Biden.
LOL!, her speech was short because she didn't want to waste the time, (were not rich Anchor Town people, so not worth the time).
John McCain has done nothing except what you people are doing now, FOLLOWING.
So if Obama has "made many mistakes already, not picking Hilary, showing himself to be a male-shovanist-pig", does that mean that everybody that doesn't vote for Palin is a 'chauvinist' pig too, simply because she's a woman??? that sounds pretty sexist to me.
Every person that represents their party for the Presidential campaign "makes history" big deal, is she really going to just "mystify" her way into office because she's a fairly (I'm not really impressed myself) attractive woman?
How about this then-
Hilton/Richie2012!!!
Last night was great! Palin rocked! It was worth the two hour flight delay.
On a side note, I asked the NBC newsies where Keith Olberscum was. The cameraman looked at me perplexed and asked if I hadn't heard that he got canned. At which, I told him I had heard he got demoted to hurricane watch. He quickly retorted "it's because he's a HATER."
I guess the people that know the media the best know the truth...
Ha ha ha!
I wasn't there btw, I have better things to do than gawk like a teen girl at some woman that apparently doesn't want to waste her time talking to a lower/middle class town anyway.
I would have loved to go--but I am still at work at that time. Go Palin!
You people that are giving her crap about using a teleprompter you are just silly. This woman is under sooo much scrutiny that McCain's people are not going to let her go out and wing a speech. Everything she says is taken to the bank, so find something else to gripe about.
like everything her party is responsible for?
LostAlaskan-
usually I wouldn't waste my time.. but you weren't there! after her speech, she came down and talked to the people for a long time after I left. don't be an ignorant hater!!
There are those who are Lost and then there are those who are Lost and don't want to be found... you must fall into the latter group.
your words are "full of sound and fury, signifying nothing"...
really? the highest suicide rate among American Soldiers EVER IN HISTORY, is nothing?
your words are "full of ignorance and aloofness, signifying stupidity"
Sarah Palin has proven she is better at the personality over policy master, David Alexrod. Remember him, Obama's chief adviser. Should be interesting watching Obama have to promise he will be the personality and good old Bill Clinton can be the behind the scene president in exchange for some policies. Watch out Bill Clinton is on his way to rescue the party. How many want Clinton as President for the next four years.
I DO!
Obama is a capitalist. See:
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/24/magazi...
I didn't see the economy fall apart when Clinton WAS in office, oh but Bush has done wonderful things for the WHOLE WORLD, and our economy is GREAT after eight years of Bushco. "in the saddle" of the Presidency.
the United States is a Capitalist country see:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitalism
LostAK:
Ok I'll bite... http://sayanythingblog.com/readers/entry...
The Army suicide rate is the highest in history since 1980 since the stats started. There is an obvious correlation with the Iraq war- most likely due to deployment strain on families, and mental stresses of combat. Every war has its casualties.. Freedom exacts a high price- but that price is not in vain.
What you leave out is that the stats started in 1980. There has only been two major conflicts since that time. So, for you to assert it's the highest ever in history including ww1, ww2, korea, vietnam is false.
I am a disabled vet. I served in active duty for 7 years. I know more about the military than what the New York times tells me. How bout you?
Lost AK;
you also left out the fact that the military suicide rate is still lower than the national average!!!
no spin zone please!
I wonder if any of you have stood up in front of a crowd of any size without notes. A good speaker uses notes not to read from, but just as aids. I think Sarah is doing a wonderful job.
And for you soldiers who are voting for Obama. That is your right but remember McCain fought in a war also and was held prisoner. That war was the Vietnam war and it was ended and was considered a failure. Not by the soldiers but by liberals. We were winning that war but due to politics (the with many wars) our soldiers weren't allowed to do their job. Obama won't let you do your job, McCain will.
Today is the anniversary of 9-11 remember those victims. And if you can't believe it can happen again you might want to get your head out of the sand. It is what you are doing in Iraq and Afganistan that is stopping it from happening now. My husband has brothers who have been in Desert Storm and the present war. Let us finish this now so others won't have to go back like we did after Desert Storm.
And let's get ANWAR opened up so we don't have to depend on enemies for our resources. Bring our jobs back to the US and let's quit farming it all out. We once were the largest industrial nation in the world with the best quality of products, we can do it again.
GO MCCAIN & PALIN, GO AMERICA.
why did I see this on the news last night then?-
"Last year's 2,100 attempted suicides -- an average of more than 5 per day -- compares with about 350 suicide attempts in 2002, the year before the war in Iraq began, according to the Army."
Since when are soldiers killing themselves at this rate considered "spin"?, you people should be ASHAMED for claiming to support our military then you FLIP-FLOP to downplay this very sad FACT because you think Sarah Palin is some kind of "Savior".
Oh, sorry 17.5 out of 100,000 soldiers killing them themselves out of 20 per 100,000 with civilians, yeah, everybody should just ignore all this and try to get a whif of Sarah's perfume instead, good thinking.
SHAMEFUL how you people ignore the REAL problems in our country just because a couple politicians do the same.
Was nice seeing my good friend Sarah Palin last night.
She's our Governor, and running on the Republican ticket for Vice-President of the United States. Yes, Alaska should be proud of this homegirl's accomplishments.
I will now stop with the "nicey nice" stuff.
I haven't cast a vote for anyone here, but if the McCain/Palin campaign doesn't get to her quick with some new material, I'll be able to recite her campaign speech real soon.
Almost word for word.
What I also find ironic is hardly anyone mentions Candidate McCain while engrossed in the "Sarah" lovefest.
She's got her own action figure doll.....and people don't even use her last name anymore.
And lo and behold, it became big news that she was coming to Fairbanks, Alaska....which is good.
But she'd have to leave the side of her running mate, John McCain.....Lord girl, hurry up and get your affairs in order and get back to his side before the Republican campaign starts taking on water.....again.
I can't remember a time in my life when more attention was being focused on a Presidential candidate actually DYING, so the Vice-Presidential running mate could assume the top spot.
Especially here in Alaska.
But in 2008? Incredible, but true.
Finally, and I have to add this because it sits on my mind......
Alot of people I talked to at last night's rally all said the same thing....."Sarah Palin and John McCain represent REAL people."
Help me to understand what the HELL does that mean.......
Affluent and predominantly "lily White"....just like you?
If that is the definition of REAL people......sounds kinda like the last 8 years of Bush/Cheney and "REAL" people asking for 4 more years of the same.
Are people voting the opposite any less "REAL?"
Help me to understand that.
"As the world's media watched, Hurricane Gustav came and went without disastrous consequences. Meanwhile there's a real disaster in Bihar – but no one seems interested.
The contrast between how the western world viewed the fizzling-out of Hurricane Gustav and the flooding of the Indian state of Bihar should remind everybody why the poor world needs no lectures from the rich.
Whereas the media rushed to cover Gustav, which has killed less than a hundred in the Carribean, the bursting of the banks of the river Kosi has been largely ignored – despite aid agencies saying millions have been affected and thousands have lost their lives."
I will be remembering the people killed on this day seven years ago, not hanging on every word Princess Palin might say to do nothing more than get your vote.
Sheep WILL flock to the shepherd after all I guess, but you people are Human beings and should be thinking for YOURSELVES, for a change.
Sarahs tush has to be pretty sore by now from all the arse kissing that's taken place in the last two weeks. My investment tip for the day to those that are counting on cashing in on the republican cash cow is to buy stock in Revlon as they can't keep up with the high volume sales of lipstick. Mooooooooooo.
LostAlaskan, as a regular reader of the News Miner online I know that you tend to start BS... You often make good comments, but it's awash in the strange rants you more often tend to start... Because of this, I discount your responses.
Although Palin speaking at the Deployment Ceremony makes it impossible to pretend my friends aren't deploying, I am happy to see some national coverage of it. Remind people...
And, as a mother of a deploying soldier, she should be there... Only wish I could be. Miss ya'll...
Boy, there is a bunch of people who need to take their med's & slow
down! McCain and Palin are stirring things up, for the better I think.
after all, wasn't she a Mary Kaye salesperson, hockey mom and PTA member while many people were devoting time and commitment to advocating and working for the vulnerable, children, women, working poor. was she ever interested in organizing her community around any issue other than lowering taxes and abortion?
How many of our government leaders are flag waving patriotic people with Asian, Native american, Black, Swedish or Irish names?
why don't we see news clips of McCain's Preacher Hagey or Pallin's extremist pastor? Their words are appalling.
When Clinton was in office he CUT THE MILITARY BY MILLIONS. So when we were hit on 911, our military was SO LOW on everything because Pres. Clinton cut so much MONEY. At the time when he cut the military budget, I told my husband "God I hope nothing happens because our military will have nothing, and guess what???? We got hit on 911 and the rest is history. When McCain becomes President, we will be STRONG and POWERFUL and he will defend our great country with his life. Not like Obama, who will have to vote PRESENT before he votes a YES OR A NO. What a looser and a fake of a politician. He can't think without stuttering or looking at a teleprompter. He can't or doesn't want to debate McCain because he knows he will be so SHELL SHOCKED by McCain. Thank God we are going to have McCain and Palin in the White House. LOVE OUR COUNTRY AS A LOT OF US INDEPENDENTS AND REPUBLICANS DO, because the LIBS and DEMS don't. For some reason they seem to hate everything that our country stands for. MAYBE THEY ALL NEED TO GO TO IRAN, where they will be LOVED.
I really enjoyed last night rally it was fun. I truly feared the protesters that were in front of the hangar all 30 of them. Two of the protesters decided that they could lean one of there signs on some ones car, with out permission of the owner. Then tell a bold face lie that the owner said they could. Their sign promptly feel to the ground with out any help. One other note Republicans and other McCain supports please do not run around town and destroy Obama posters, we are better then that. Leave the normal sign painting and sign destruction to the Liberals.
OldSkoolNook42 : is that supposed to be some sort of poem?
No poem at all "X23." Asking for clarification as to the term "real" people.
I keep hearing "John McCain and Sarah Palin represent "real" people."
Everytime I ask for clarification, I get no answer.
Voting Obama/Biden...does that make you any less "real?"
I keep waiting for answers too, but it seems like unless you insult on here no one responds. Even then, it's only to insult back.
Thanks for your private concern alaskaway but I don't get offended by ignorant people. LOL
Haven't heard anything from AKLOWN today. Hope he gets on here tonight. His comments crack me up.
With the exception of Seekins, there were plenty of respectable business men and women, supporters AND Mothers of children with disabilities - I would vote for Dawn Sadler before I'd vote Obama! I was proud to attend and watch a little history being made. Please keep watching the interviews and reading informative news reports (not all from here of course) and DO vote for whom you think will help our Country more...however have you all heard the latest from poor Biden? He seems to think he was not the best choice afterall...gee, would he actually decline to run BEFORE his debate with Palin and "POOF" Hilary appears in his place instead!?! Wouldn't that be interesting...
Isn't it unamerican for Geezer and Gidget to have their names painted on a Brazilian manufactured aircraft?? Check the photos.
RooftopVoter – The Socialist Party is a political party and the last time I checked, Obama was running as a Democrat, not a card carrying Marxist. So do I get the hundred bucks?
He also has laid out his plans for how to change the direction our country will go, unlike the adulterer McCain who thinks he can repackage himself as a reformer, when he has voted with the “C” student, draft dodger, Swift Boater W more than 95% of the time. Like the adulterer McCain has said himself, you can put lipstick on a pig and it’s still a pig.
Oh, the hundred dollars was if Beau Biden came back and used his military experience to run for office, as the adulterer John McCain, or the “C” student, draft dodger, Swift Boater W did. Or as John Kerry who actually did honorably serve in the military, or any other politician who has served our country. Don’t forget, Sarah Palin’s son comes from a political family and was also deployed yesterday, along with others. Would it be different if Sarah Palin’s son does the same? Of course it is, to you – you’re a Republican.
And what’s this hang up all you rabid mouth Republicans have against lawyers? Its as phony as the war on Christmas. Sarah Palin has hired a lawyer to defend her now that she is under investigation for firing her brother-in-law’s boss. Next time you end up in jail, call your dentist and see how far you get.
RooftopVoter – The sex education bill that Obama merely voted on, was to give a comprehensive sex education course spread over thirteen years of K-12. Accusing Obama of teaching kindergartners, “homosexual sex and masturbation” is ludicrous and disgusting. Shame on you. Kindergartners will be taught that no one has the right to touch them, and they should scream and run away to the nearest grown up. A far cry from, “homosexual sex and masturbation.”
Obama’s tax cuts to working class folks like you and me, will be offset when he repeals the obscene tax cuts given to the filthy stinking rich by the “C” student, draft dodger, Swift Boater, W, who truly crushed our economy these past eight years. Have you already forgotten, or has the glare of Palin’s tiara blinded you? I find it interesting that the people who have been hurt the most by W’s tax cuts for the filthy sticking rich, are the strongest supporters of them. But, if you’re one of the filthy stinking rich, then go away and count your money and stop distorting the facts and telling outright lies to support your own selfish needs.
As far as military spending, the U.S. spends more on its military than all the other nations of the world combined, including Russia.
Apparently you get all your misinformation from the adulterer McCain’s commercials or Faux news. Maybe you should go read a book. The Audacity of Hope would be an excellent start.
