True leadership

To the editor:

I have long felt that the editorial writer should include his, or her, name as the byline but is has occurred to me of late that it wouldn’t make any difference. The obvious bias your paper has shown toward the present governor crops up no matter who writes the opinion!

The editorial of Saturday, Aug. 30, and Dermot Cole’s column of the same date, echoed the same sentiment that Sarah Palin is not qualified for the office of vice president of the United States! It’s your paper and you have a right to your opinion, but I personally think you could all take a lesson from the lady in question.

I submit to you that no one that aspires to any position of authority can know everything about everything or they wouldn’t have to run for office; they’d just take over. True leadership is the ability to surround yourself with the people who do know everything about specific categories or who know where to find the answers if they don’t know. Do you really think that any of our leaders, past or present, accomplished any of their legacies by themselves? They received help from the people they selected for their knowledge of the way things should be done.

I believe Gov. Palin has the innate ability to attract the proper people for the jobs that need to be done — you leftovers from the “good old boy” network better brush up on your homework. If she left for a cabinet post as Hickel did or some other minor role at the federal level, I would feel betrayed, but there aren’t many chances in life like the vice presidential slot, and I am personally happy for her.

One more thing in closing — if the sour grapes you’re ingesting don’t kill your taste buds, I’m sure the crow that follows will finish the job!
