Cancer lecture planned

Published Wednesday, September 3, 2008

FAIRBANKS — Devra Lee Davis, an University of Pittsburgh epidemiology professor and author, will be giving a free lecture about toxin awareness and cancer.

The lecture, “The Secret History of the War on Cancer,” also is the title of her latest book, which says industry leaders have been lobbying and manipulating scientists and the government when it comes to the health hazards of toxic chemicals.

Davis was a guest on “Larry King Live” and “The Early Show” after being a driving force in a memo from Dr. Ronald B. Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, which cautioned his staff to limit cell phone usage because of the unclear link to cancer.

The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at Schaible Auditorium. It also will be available on the Web at canhr.uaf.edu.

I listened to Devra Lee Davis lecture last year in Seattle on the same subject and it was OUTSTANDING! I encourage everyone to attend, for there are very few of us in this country who have had or someday will have cancer or have a loved one afflicted with this horrible scourge. Please go, and buy one of her books or check them out from a library.
