FAIRBANKS — Lathrop captured four of the first five lightweight bouts and went on to a 55-17 win over North Pole in Thursday’s Mid Alaska Conference wrestling dual meet at Lathrop High School.
Dillon Achman won by forfeit at 103 pounds and Jeremy Simmons followed with a pin of Cody Decker in 3 minutes, 51 seconds of their 112-pound match. Joe Hughes pinned Dalton Barrie in 5:36 of the 119 match, and Dominic Kelly scored a 15-0 technical fall over Walter Foran at 135 pounds.
“We have a couple of upperclassmen,’’ Lathrop head coach Tom Ritchie Sr. said of his lightweights, “and Jeremy Simmons, being a senior, attacks real well and Joe Hughes (junior) has come a long way on technique and intensity. They’re also showing leadership by their performances on the mat and elsewhere.’’
The Patriots’ Jacob Ralph broke up the Malemutes’ string of lightweight wins with a 10-2 major decision over Steven Temple.
Elliot Clausen, another senior, delivered for the Malemutes with an 18-0 technical fall over Zach McKirdy. Clausen registered six near-falls in the match.
“He didn’t get a pin, but he was working for it,’’ Ritchie said. “It was a crowd pleaser.’’
Complete results of the dual meet are listed in today’s Sports Scoreboard on page D2.
Lathrop is 1-0 in dual meets and was coming off a championship run in the Bob Bailey Invitational at Chugiak High School last weekend.
The Malemutes and the Patriots are among the Interior teams entered in the Oct. 31-Nov. 1 John Tobin Invitational at North Pole. Dual meets are scheduled today and weight-bracket matches take place Saturday.
Kodiak, Colony, and South Anchorage, which is coached by Ritchie’s son, Tom Jr., are also scheduled to compete.
Results of Thursday’s tri-meet featuring Hutchison hosting Eielson and Nenana were not available.
