Search resumes for missing diver in remote Alaska village

Published Thursday, October 16, 2008

SAND POINT, Alaska -- Authorities in Sand Point have resumed the search for a diver who disappeared while doing contract work for a local cannery.

Co-workers said John Shannon was performing tests on the dock at Trident Cannery Tuesday night when he told a supervisor he was taking a break and didn't return.

A check of his room the next morning discovered he hadn't spent the night there.

His supervisor, Carl Bryson, tells Sand Point radio station KSDP there was nothing wrong with Shannon before he disappeared.

Volunteers and cannery workers have looked for him since at the dock, harbor, airport and town.
