Enough

To the editor:

I was pleased to see the Begich campaign donate more of their national New York money to a good charity here in Alaska (News-Miner, Sept. 18, 2008). But it is disturbing to think that these funds represent a drop in the bucket when it comes to all the Outside money Mayor Begich has brought in for his Senate race.

Please don’t let the wealthy, East Coast, liberal elitists decide whom Alaskans should send to Washington, D.C. These national Democratic types will stop at nothing to get rid of someone who has given Alaska so much. They are pumping millions of dollars and just as many lies into our state to hurt Sen. Stevens and tarnish his service to Alaska. We need to make them understand that enough is enough.

Alaska is a state where residents cannot only say they have met/know every one of their elected representatives, but often are on a first name basis. Sen. Stevens has stood by Alaska, and now it is time that Alaska stands by Sen. Stevens. Say no to Mark Begich and the dirty New York style politics that his “friends” want to bring to Alaska. When will they learn that they attract more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Yeah, Stevens only takes good ol' VECO money for his politics-for-sale, not that "New York" money. C'mon, Griswold...open your eyes and see Stevens for the bought-and-paid-for sleazebag he has become. If you think his campaign funds are all Alaskan then I have a Bridge to Nowhere I'd dearly love to sell you.
There seems to be a common theme to the Stevens-is-God bunch such as yourself. It runs along the lines of "he can do no wrong and even if he has look at all the money he's brought to Alaska". I guess some folks know what to charge for their votes and if Unca Ted has brought enough money into their area of interest he is above the law.
Frankly, I don't care if he's discovered the cure for cancer and how to make unlimited energy cheaply from sand. If he's taken bribes from VECO, as seems likely, then I say treat the little runt to a few years in Leavenworth courtesy of Uncle Sam. Might put a little necessary humbleness back into his scrawny frame.

Over the years I have read many stories about Senator Steven's war chest and how he got all that money. I don't begrudge his opponent getting a big enough war chest to be heard amongst all the ads that Stevens will buy.

    Right. Vote for Bob Bird.

Oh wait, he believes in governing by the Constitution. He is clean, honest and full of integrity. Alaskans don't usually go for that.

If Democrats in the US were investigated the same way Republicans were investigated here in Alaska, there'd be ten times more than the Republicans have. Too bad we couldn't do nothing about Obama

I might vote for Stevens. I might vote for Bird. I won't vote for Begich. I don't care where they get their voice box money.

Yes, I agree when you say "make them understand that enough is enough". If we can just vote all three of them out over the next few years that would be great.

    Enough is indeed enough!

    Arthur,
Where do you think Stevens' money is coming from? Do you think the money he and Don Young are paying their lawyers came from Alaskan's donations? Get serious!

"Birds of a feather flock together". From the recorded converstations....

    Bill: "I love you Ted."

Ted: "Bill, you're one of my best friends in life".

Veco... the antilabor, scum, scab outfit of the far north and Ted Stevens is best of buds with them. That alone should tell anyone he is a scumbag too.

"Say no to Mark Begich and the dirty New York style politics..."

As much as he could have done otherwise, I think Mark Begich has actually run quite a positive campaign. He has kept his ads focused on what HE will do for Alaska and has stayed above the fray of the Ted Stevens matter. Could you please identify how Begich has brought "dirty New York style politics" to Alaska? I just don't see it.

    Archer -

    you are kidding right...

last night I was watching the tube and a Begich add came on with three actors pretending to be feds talking about crooked Ted...

Now - he may or may not deserve it - the courts will decide...

but that commercial was far from positive!

I will vote for Ted or Bird - if ted is found guilty, the governor will be able to appoint someone new I believe - and I trust her more than Begich!

I am not voting for Begich. I don't know anything about him, but the idiots who work for his campaign have spammed the heck out of my inbox. I can't really think of anything a candidate could do to irk me off more.

akguy, that ad you are talking about was not from Begich. I believe that ad was put out from the democratic senator action committee or some group with a similar name.

You can think that any candidate has some control over other's ads or not - who knows. But that is the reason why candidates have to have the line about supporting this ad so people can distinguish which ads come from them and don't.

And Don Young gets his cash from Florida land speculators. Those Florida land speculators are right up there on the list of upstanding types. Right alongside, let's see...used car salesmen, pimps, meth lab proprietors, and (dare I say it) congressmen.

    Birds of a feather...
