FAIRBANKS — An apparent love triangle among three women ended with one woman stabbed Wednesday.

Vanessa R. Esmailka, 28, has been charged with one count of felony assault in connection with the incident.

She is accused of stabbing a woman she claimed to have a sexual relationship with after Esmailka told Fairbanks police she saw the victim having sex with Esmailka’s sister.

Fairbanks police were called to a room at the Alaska Motel to investigate the reported stabbing and found Esmailka covered in blood, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

The alleged incident was witnessed by Esmailka’s sister and two other people, including a man who said he sustained a small cut to his hand trying to disarm Esmailka.

Authorities believe that Esmailka stabbed the victim in the upper chest once, leaving a cut about 2 inches deep.

All the witnesses had been drinking and were too intoxicated to make written statements to police, according to the complaint.

Esmailka initially told police she had been having an affair with the victim for several years and became angry when Esmailka saw her sister having sex with the victim, according to the complaint.

She later said the victim fell on the knife, but continued to ask about her condition.

When questioned at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, the victim denied having a sexual relationship with Esmailka.

She said Esmailka suddenly jumped up and stabbed her when she was going outside for a cigarette.
