FAIRBANKS -- A Fairbanks man was killed in a vehicle collision Thursday night near Trapper Creek.

Climie Douglas, 29, was pronounced dead soon after paramedics rescued him from the wreckage of a vehicle in which he was a passenger near Mile 133 Parks Highway.

Alaska State Troopers and emergency workers were called to the scene at around 11:30 p.m. when a southbound vehicle driven by Blessing Wallace, 29, of Fairbanks, apparently crossed into the other lane of traffic and struck a commercial utility vehicle operated by 37-year-old Charles L. Patterson, of Anchorage.

Douglas and Wallace were trapped in their vehicle and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. Wallace sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Providence Hospital for treatment. Douglas was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.

Patterson and his passenger were taken to Mat-Su Regional Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The utility vehicle suffered extensive damage, while Wallace’s Ford 500 was totaled in the accident.

Troopers believe the collision was caused by very poor road conditions and heavy snow. Everyone involved appears to have been wearing a seatbelt.
