Aggressive bear shot in village on Kodiak Island

Published Saturday, October 4, 2008

OLD HARBOR, Alaska -- An aggressive bear was shot and killed in Old Harbor on Kodiak Island.

Alaska State Troopers say that on Wednesday the Old Harbor Village Public Safety Officer responded to a report of an aggressive bear in the downtown area.

The public safety officer tried to chase the bear off repeatedly with hazing rounds, but the bear refused to leave the area.

The public safety officer then killed the bear under defense of life and property rules.
