FAIRBANKS — The North Pole Patriots put together a strong all-around performance in sweeping the Kotzebue Huskies in a nonconference high school volleyball match on Thursday night at North Pole.
“It was an all-around stellar performance by everyone on the team,” North Pole coach Victoria Denning said. “Everyone stepped up and did their job tonight.”
The Patriots got stronger as the night went on, posting a 25-14, 25-9, 25-3 triumph.
“They seemed to step it up point by point,” Denning said. “They’ve learned to play intense volleyball all the time, no matter what the score is.”
Middle hitters McKenzie Foran and Megan McKinnell led the way for the Patriots. Foran had nine kills and four blocks, while McKinnell registered seven kills and five blocks.
“I also thought our outside hitters played very well,” Denning said. “We didn’t get a lot of kills, but we made very few errors and everyone had a good all-around performance.”
Kayla Rivers served for eight straight points in the third game.
The match kicked off a busy four-match stretch for North Pole. The Patriots are at Delta Junction on Friday, host the Monroe Catholic Rams on Monday and play at Hutchison on Tuesday.
Kotzebue remains in town for matches against Lathrop today and West Valley and Hutchison on Saturday.
