Alaska salmon bound for Wal-Mart freezers
Published Friday, November 21, 2008
JUNEAU, Alaska -- Some of Alaska's finest sockeye salmon is hitting Wal-Mart's frozen food sections.
Wal-Mart is stocking Bristol Bay's wild-caught salmon in 233 of its stores throughout western United States.
Trout Unlimited, a Virginia-based fisheries advocacy group, says this development shows that high-end shoppers aren't the only ones conscious of where fish is caught.
The effort is part of a broad pledge to buy and encourage suppliers toward sustainable seafood, according to the Bentonville, Ark.-based company.
Other fisheries groups such as the United Fishermen of Alaska, the Alaska Independent Fisherman's Marketing Association and Nunamta Aulukestai praised the company for its investment into the region.

Wonderful! This is a smart move on Wal-Mart's part. May your stocks go up!
