Delta skaters hold off rally from Monroe

FAIRBANKS — Delta Junction’s hockey team survived a comeback from Monroe Catholic to win 5-3 Tuesday night.

The Huskies were up 3-0 by the first intermission and had a 3-1 edge after the second period, but the Rams surged back to tie the game at 3 with 7 minutes left. Delta pulled away with a goal with 1:41 remaining.

“We can’t be going down 3-0 like we have the past few games,” Monroe coach Leo Faro said. “... If it had been 1-1, we could have turned it the other way.”

Joe Junior led the Huskies with three goals and one assist. Jake Gebauer had a goal and an assist, Eathon Gebauer had a goal and Caleb Brown had an assist. Delta goalie Harold Probert tallied 15 saves.

Monroe’s goals came courtesy of Eric Ringstad, who had two, and Dan Bunten. Timmy Johnson tabbed three helpers, and Tyler Holmes chipped in one. At the net, Andy Bunten had 33 saves for the Rams.

Patriots wrestling cruises

North Pole’s wrestling team topped two smaller schools by more than 100 points in a tri-meet at North Pole High School Tuesday night.

The Patriots’ 146 bested Eielson’s 39 and Hutchison’s 16.

Dominic Smith, Trent Shepersky, Brennan Hamilton, Jason Quan, Walter Foran, Taylor Lewis and Jackson Collins won by pin for the Patriots.
