Corrosion likely cause of latest oil spill on North Slope
Published Tuesday, May 20, 2008
ANCHORAGE -- State environmental regulators say corrosion appears to have caused an oil spill on one of the newer oil fields on the North Slope.
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation says about 190 gallons of 99 percent crude oil spilled onto a gravel pad Monday on the Alpine field, which began production in 2000.
Leslie Pearson, manager of the DEC's prevention and emergency response program, says the cause appears to be corroded pipes.
Pearson says the source of the spill has been controlled.
She says an investigation is under way to determine what caused a corrosion-based leak after so little time.

Thought this newspaper was a little open minded. Saying that I thought was a little more like (better not say it, it might come true.) But guess they are like most other news organizations. Explain the worst possibilities when it doesn't happen say nothing, when it does. Time stamp this story to the head lines.
