Palin to make announcement Thursday on TransCanada gas line proposal
Published Monday, May 19, 2008
JUNEAU — Gov. Sarah Palin and her gas line team will announce Thursday whether or not they will seek an exclusive state license for the Canadian pipeline company TransCanada, according to the governor’s office.
Palin and her team will also release a summary of the administration’s written findings on the proposal and whether or not the proposal maximizes the benefits to Alaskans, a requirement under the Alaska Gasline Inducement Act.
The summary will include the administration’s conclusions on ConocoPhillips’ and BP’s pipeline proposal and on an “all-Alaska” pipeline involving liquefied natural gas, or LNG.
TransCanada’s proposal involves a pipeline running through Canada.
The announcement will be made Thursday morning in Anchorage, according to a news release from the governor’s office.
Palin is planning to hold a series of meetings on gas pipeline issues next week in Anchorage and has called lawmakers back to Juneau for a special session starting June 3.

LNG=Let's Not Give it away for less than the maximum benefit for our people and future.
AGIA=Access Given In Alaska as a priority of LNG and the industries we stand to develop to support our state's population.
We're counting on you Governor Palin.
This is the big one worth fighting for as a sovereign state.
""will announce Thursday whether or not they will seek an exclusive state license""
EXCLUSIVE?
...so, what if TransCanada is granted a non-exclusive state license???
NON-EXCLUSIVE..............
That would be great news for Alaskans.
Why?...
Because Wally Hickel and the rest of us old gas-passers can still do biz with our friends too.
[I'm being self-depreciative at risk of shooting myself in the foot]
There's plenty of gas to go around for everybody..
and it's not just Alaska's gas that is so plentiful..
Recent technologies can make abundant cost-competitive natural gas out of just about anything containing hydrocarbons..
including the burning coal seams in Pennsylvania [and it can put those old fires out too],
the 7000 abandoned oil wells in Pennsylvania [and everywhere else]
all of the hydrocarbon waste in North America's garbage dumps,
millions of tons of rubber tires,
all of the gooey mess in the Canadian Tar-Sands,
Colorado Shale Oil..
all of the unrecovered oil in all the old plays..
and the new Bakken oil play too.
...it's much easier to zap gas out of tight rocks than it is to suck oil.

"Peak Oil" is just a passing propaganda play.
..and Al Gore's big worry is there's not enough oxygen in the atmosphere to combust all of the hydrocarbons modern technology has unleashed.[monthly oxygen content has been swinging more wild]
My concern about exporting NorthSlopeGas isn't what the Oilygarchy will or won't do..
[I assume they're gonna do the wrong thing anyway]
..it's what could happen if the thermal avalanche of all arctic methane-hydrates goes runaway on us.
The 2007 tundra-fire caused by NEW-lightning sneaking thru Anaktuvuk Pass, burning wall to wall between the Nanushuk & Itkillik Rivers should be an obvious omen.

Those of you who take the time to read through the many pages of moose-drool I've drizzled into the Moose-Whiner peanut gallery will familiarize yourselves with my advocacy for using the latest technologies in plastic-gaslines.
Why Plastic?..
[lotsa reasons]
#1.. An All Alaska "smart gasline network" poses much less financial risk to investors.
#2.. First Gas To Fairbanks with plastic-gaslines is expected in months, not years.
#3.. Cost for first Cash-Return is a few million, not tens-of-billions.
#4.. Alaska has the NGL's and should be making it's own plastic pipe.
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&n...
The "producers" have been smuggling Alaskan NGL's out through TAPS since 1977. [that's why Exxon Valdez was such a horrid mess]
#5.. Even if there ends up being a dozen big-steal pipelines slurping the resources out of Alaska, we will be importing our expensive plastic pipes for water, sewage, etc. from faraway unless we make our own here.
http://www.jwell-pipe.com/en/product/ind...
BigOil is already buying rtp-gasline from companies like Halliburton for really-really big-bux and passing the rip-off to the market..
..and how do you suppose the oil&gas gathering pipe-network is going to be built across NPR4 and ANWR and all over the Foothills???
With steel pipe????
....just wait and see,
....just wait and see,....just wait and see.
#6.. A fully developed "smart gasline network" will be able to ship Alaska's gas to market quicker and faster, with much less environmental impact...
...while providing maximum benefit to Alaska.
#6..... Heck, just read my previous posts here and you'll figure it out if you really want to know--->

...flash/rumble
If the AGIA process selects TransCanada, and they proceed to a failed open-season, ie no customers sign up to ship gas, will it be because they are building their own pipeline (BP and Conoco-Phillips) or will it be just another sign of a conspiracy.
Take another puff and figure that one out.......
Do you really believe America will let the oil companies Not ship gas on a built line? You take a hit and think about it.
Mighty cryptic of you AA,....
and I'm only sipping beer........
Copper_River_Red: RIGHT ON!!! ALASKA GAS FOR ALASKANS FIRST. Any plan to ship Alaskan gas from the North Slope must include provisions that ALL ALASKANS will benefit from OUR GAS before the surplus is shipped out of the State. The empty promises of affordable Oil for ALASKANS with the construction of the Trans-Alaskan-Pipeline in the 1970's can not be repeated. Alaska produces 16% of America's domestic oil, yet ALASKANS pay the highest price for gasoline and heating oil in the Nation for our own oil. NEVER AGAIN!
I'd love to see the 3" plastic line idea adjusted for PERMAFROST COSTS: you have to refrigerate it, or suspend it. But as Valdez's pipe plans, or anybody else's, just Blandly pass it off as lttle different from non-Permafrost, we'll just have to EXPECT a factor-of-3 overrun, just like the last time.
... if you have problems with ALL Alaska's Oil the money disappearing ... that's your choice of electees.
Alaska does not even consume what you royalty share is (an eighth, if I recall). so it is YOUR oil, not Big Oil's, that you are selling to the average Alaskan.
>>> So you are charging >> YOURSELF >> that high price.
Now: use Icebreakers DIRECT form the North Coast & you can not only ship to Anchorage & barge to Fairbanks, but: Juneau & Nome, etc, too.
And by opening up Oil & gas areas that are too expensive to extend the Pipe WEST for (because it would be in PERMAFROST), Icebreaking LNG can AVOID the Prudhoe Gas & therefore avoid wrecking the Prudhoe OIL:
Don't wreck that Oil:
YOU'LL LOSE YOUR PERMANENT FUND, ALASKA !
... Costing Big Oil over $100 Billion in Oil is not something you can legally get away with. It's enough like vandalism they may get Triple Damages: in which case after the STATE goes bankrupt: can you pay your $400,000 EACH, share of the rest? -- because that's what they do when municipalities go bankrupt !
