Delta Junction to staff Rural Development office
Published Sunday, May 18, 2008
U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development will hold regular office hours in Delta Junction through the summer to assist area residents, including farmers, in applying for home loans, community facilities and business funds.
USDA Rural Development has programs for home ownership, businesses and assistance in developing a renewable energy project or energy efficiency, as well as funding for community facilities projects and water and sewer infrastructure.
Loans from the Farm Labor Housing program can be used for construction, repair or purchase of housing or to purchase land and pay for architectural, engineering or legal fees and interest during construction.
Low income homeowners who meet requirements can borrow up to $20,000 at 1 percent interest to make improvements to their homes, such as drilling wells, buying furnaces or building handicap ramps.
For income eligible seniors over age 62, grants are available for home repairs.
USDA Fairbanks Area Director Jim Pohlman and loan specialist Kim Wood will be available.
To schedule an appointment, call 907-479-6767, or e-mail jane.gibson@ak.usda.gov.
