Letter to the Editor
Peace and harmony?

To the editor:
After thinking about this for a while, I just wanted to comment on racism issues that have been on the news and in papers. I am referring to the two disc jockeys in Anchorage and Calvin Moses’ letter to the editor in the Daily News-Miner.
It is so sad in the 21st century that this is happening. My first year of high school I attended in Fairbanks, and racism was pretty bad toward us young adults.
To this day, I wonder about those particular people now that they are adults, and how do they feel or are their offspring the same?
I have a granddaughter who is part-Caucasian along with some other relatives. I have nothing against them, I love them all.
Can we just all live in peace and harmony?

racism is so un-cool!
Racism hurts everyone, and not just for the moment but for life. it's really too bad that people can get in very visable positions, and in this case with a large listening audience and spout trash about other ethnic groups. i, too, have experienced racism but my parents taught me to try to get along with others because they knew, eventually, we would have to live among other ethnic groups. thank you for your letter. and good question! can we? i will sure try and i have taught and will continue to teach my children to do the same.
I have a diverse family, My grandchildren are Caucasian, Athabaskan, and Inupiak and I love them all. I find the hate being spewed in the name of entertainment by shock jocks more than disturbing. It fuels more hate and soon we are all subjected to this vile lifestyle. I implore the public to stop giving these shock jocks your ear. Turn to another station, wether its another commercial station or better yet Public Radio. Let the advertisers know you will not support anyone who aligns themselves with such hate mongering. Its a simple, effective way to say, Stop The Hate. I am personally trying to follow the example of the Dali Lama, Martin Luther KIng Jr, and Mahatma Ghandi. I will not return their hate with a message of hate myself. I will join with others to boycott their message, their employers, and their advertisers. I can not sit back and let these messages go unanswered, but I will not sink to their level. Join me if you wish. Lets make Alaska a wonderful place where we respect all races and learn from one another.
