WASILLA -- Teachers in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District have a tentative new two-year contract.

The proposal calls for a 4 percent pay increase in fiscal year 2009 and a 3.75 percent increase in fiscal year 2010.

The proposal calls for adding two days to the calendar in the second year to better plan for parent-teacher conferences.

Health insurance contributions are set to remain the same.

Mat-Su Education Association President George Stuart says the new contract should meet the needs of teachers.

The contract must be ratified by teachers and approved by the school board.
