A North Pole home was destroyed by fire Tuesday morning.

The North Star Volunteer Fire Department responded to the residence on Silver Street just after 9 a.m. to find the fire consuming the top floor of the two-story house.

With mutual aid assistance provided by the North Pole, Fort Wainwright and Eielson Air Force Base fire departments, firefighters had the blaze under control by 10:30 a.m.

A large portion of the house’s upper level collapsed into the basement as a result of the fire. The building and contents, valued at $200,000, were declared a total loss. The house was insured, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
