Pamm Hubbard has landed the University of Alaska Fairbanks athletic department a unique grant that comes with several other bonuses — it paves the way for a promotion and saves the university money by paying for part of her salary and benefits.

Hubbard, currently UAF’s assistant athletic director for compliance/senior woman administrator, has helped obtain a Strategic Alliance Matching Grant from the NCAA, something awarded to just eight Division II programs every year, according to a UAF press release.

The grant will be used the next three years to help fund an associate athletic director for compliance/SWA position, a title Hubbard will be promoted to this summer.

Hubbard, in addition to ensuring UAF athletes are in compliance with NCAA regulations, will now also direct the North Star Invitational women’s basketball tournament, oversee rifle and women’s basketball and participate in department planning, the release said.

The grant “amounts to much-needed financial assistance,” UAF athletic director Forrest Karr said in the release. “Pamm’s effort to secure this grant will allow us to enhance a position, reward and keep an exceptional employee and allocate more scarce resources to areas that directly impact student-athlete welfare.”

The grant will save the university about $150,000, money it can instead use for things like scholarships and uniforms, Karr said Tuesday.

The grant program was created to remedy a shortage of professional development opportunities for minority and women administrators, the release said.
