Bus stopped

To the editor:
I was on the bus at 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 29. The driver had let a passenger off at the courthouse stop sign at Wendell and Lacey streets.
There was a cab in the courthouse pull-out area. The bus driver motioned through hand signals that we needed to proceed up Lacey Street. This cab driver is out of his cab and being very mouthy and sarcastic, not to mention arrogant, to the bus driver, who maintains composure throughout this unnecessary delay.
He then gets in his cab and pulls forward, against traffic, so that the bus is unable to proceed without driving up on the curb. At this time the bus driver calls the transit center on the radio and asks the dispatcher to call the Fairbanks Police Department to respond. We wait. The cab driver now moves back into the pull-out area and attempts to get the attention of the passenger that was just let out of the bus, to no avail. The bus driver then calls the transit park dispatcher and was told to fill out an incident report once we were able to reach the transit center (as per the Fairbanks Police Department).
To hold up the public transit system intentionally is beyond my comprehension. Maybe he feels people should be putting money into his pocket instead of an economic and ecologically conscious system? Who knows!
I know the importance of being on time to make connections with another bus to reach a certain destination as I ride the bus quite often. Yes, I called the owner of the cab company. He was quite open to my call and assured me that he would speak to the driver involved. Perhaps he will let this driver know that he made a poor judgment call and that his behavior caused an inconvenience not only to those of us that were passengers in the bus, but to those adults and children that were waiting out in the cold and windy weather for the bus that was late.

LQ - I concur...
This cab driver was just exhibiting his natural behavior in the wild. There is a reason cab drivers are considered the bottom feeders of the transportation industry.
some cab drivers are just childish and rude....others are considerate...u just came in contact with a childish one
Faye,
Sorry you ran into one that was childish and inconsiderate; I've twice had to fly outside during the past year and had to use Taxi Service to get to and from the Air Port. In most cases I was fortunate enough to get a Taxi that was clean and a driver that was courteous...
Yeah, its too bad that 50% of cabbies give the rest a bad name!
I've taken cabs all over the world - and that's about the ratio of decent, helpful cab drivers to the ones that act like idiots in some form or another (like, perhaps, leaving an incredibly inebriated would be passenger outside to freeze to death).
Worst ones were in Atlanta & Manchester. Best ones were in Prague & Tampa (but make damn sure you get a licensed one in Prague!!!)

IT'S NOT DIRTY LANGANGE Newsminer staff NOT KNOW HOW to READ MY POST very good !!! IDOIT !!
Ya know... I don't think its just cab drivers that are lacking in politeness! Good customer service is lacking period in Fairbanks. There are so many places that I just won't waste my time going to anymore due to bad customer service! Whats amazing to me is thta our city <partially> thrives off of tourism and we can't be making a good impression!
Its hard to encourage people to shop local when shopping local means shopping for disrespect.
Haha! I think it is more a matter of shopping for good service; one does not need to shop for "disrespect" in Fairbanks. Poor service is the rule, not the exception. ;-D
