Hyatt’s work off the ice lands honor

Alaska Nanooks junior left wing Trevor Hyatt was named as one of 11 Central Collegiate Hockey Association players designated as their respective school’s 2007-08 Student Athlete of the Year.
A civil engineering major, Hyatt carries a 4.0 grade point average. He also is one of 22 finalists for the Hockey Humanitarian Award.
Hyatt played in 23 games for the Nanooks this season and scored the Nanooks only goal in a 2-1 triple-overtime loss Sunday at Nebraska-Omaha that ended the Nanooks season in the first round of the CCHA playoffs.
In the classroom, Hyatt was recognized last year as the Sophomore Engineering Student of the Year at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
He is a member of Tau Beta Pi (National Engineering Honor Society), Chi Epsilon (National Civil Engineering Honor Society) and the American Society of Civil Engineers. He is a University of Alaska Scholar and a Chancellor’s Gold Scholar.
Other players nominated by their schools are: sophomore defenseman Kyle Page of Bowling Green; sophomore forward Aaron Lewicki of Ferris State; senior forward Jason Blain of Lake Superior State; senior goaltender Charlie Effinger, Miami (Ohio); junior goaltender Jeff Lerg of Michigan State; sophomore goaltender Jeremie Dupont of Nebraska-Omaha; sophomore forward Billy Smith of Northern Michigan; goaltender Jordan Pearce Jr., of Notre Dame; senior forward John Dingle of Ohio State; and junior forward Dave Krisky of Western Michigan.
The player chosen as the CCHA Scholar-Athlete of the Year will be recognized at the CCHA Awards Banquet on March 20 in Detroit.
