Dream Alaska basketball squad raising funds for trip to Arizona

The Dream Alaska boys basketball team will hold a fundraiser Friday night to raise money to help with travel costs to attend the Native American Basketball Invitational tournament in Phoenix.
The team is hosting a Navajo taco feed starting at 5 p.m. Friday at the Tanana Chiefs David Salmon Tribal Hall in Fairbanks.
In addition to the food, there will be live music by Trimbel Gilbert and Ezra Gibson.
A raffle will be held during the festivities with the main prizes being a Fisher fur hat and men’s and women’s cow skin fur boots.
All proceeds from the event will go to the Dream Alaska team to help cover travel expenses.
The team is made up of high school boys from Northway, Minto, Tok, Glennallen and Copper Center.
Players on the team include Reynard Smith, Randy Demit, Todd Demit, Lucas Nutting, Moses Gibson, Skylar Webb, Chris Hopson, Doug Rock and Derrick Sinyon. The team is coached by Neal Charlie Jr.
The NABI tournament runs from July 21-26 and features 48 boys teams and 32 girls teams.
Spruce Tree Classic
The Spruce Tree Classic running race is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday.
The 7.2-mile run starts the University of Alaska Fairbanks Patty Center and goes up the sledding hill onto the north campus trails. Runners then head out onto the T-field, eventually hitting the Skarland Trail system at the graveyard and the loop around and back to the Patty Center. The trail will be marked.
There is no entry fee.
There is a water stop along the course and refreshments will be available at the finish
Dogs are not permitted along the course.
Donnelly Dome Ascent
The first Donnelly Dome Ascent will be at noon Sunday at the mountain south of Delta Junction off the Richardson Highway.
The free race, open to runners and hikers, will ascend a trail on the southeast side of the 3,910-foot peak. The elevation gain is approximately 1,800 feet over 1.5 miles. Entrants will descend at their leisure.
Donnelly Dome is located about 20 miles south of Delta Junction (near Milepost 246). Signs on the highway will direct participants to a parking area near the race start.
Due to limited parking, participants are encouraged to carpool. Wind gear is also recommended.
