Thieves ransack $80,000 in electronics from Delta High School

DELTA JUNCTION — Alaska State Troopers are investigating the theft of at least $80,000 in electronics from Delta High School.

The theft occurred Saturday night or Sunday morning, when the thief or thieves broke in through a side door and made off with more than 50 pieces of electronics, mostly laptops used in mobile learning stations.

Desktop computers and a large video monitor were also among the stolen items.

In addition, the school’s security system was also taken, so there is no visual record of the thefts. The value of the stolen items is between $80,000 and $100,000.

About $6,000 worth of vandalism was done to doors and windows within the school.

However, no student records appear to have been taken in the course of the burglary, Delta Greely School District Superintendent P. J. Ford Slack said in a statement.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call troopers in Fairbanks at 451-5100 or troopers in Delta Junction at 895-4800.

How sad to steal from a school. I wish they had better security system, one that can't be picked up and taken from its location. Hopefully they will find the person or people involved. It is already hard enough for schools to get the things they need for their students in the first place.
