JUNEAU -- An Alakanuk man is in jail on assault charges after Alaska State Troopers say he got drunk and fired a gun at several people, injuring a 14-year-old girl.

Troopers say 36-year-old Paul Morris Phillip Jr. was shooting at people from his house Sunday evening where he was alone with his 4-year-old son.

Officials say the girl was injured in the head as a result of the shooting, and the village health aide was unable to assist her during the incident.

Troopers from Emmonak responded by boat to the remote Yukon River village where they apprehended Phillip.

Troopers say the weapon was set up to fire at the front door upon entry into the residence, but it did not discharge.

The wounded girl was treated at the local clinic then flown to Bethel for additional care. Her name and her condition were not released.

Phillip's son was not injured.
