Nanooks’ Ferguson hopes to name assistant coaches this week

The Alaska Nanooks hockey team is scheduled to announce its two new assistant coaches this week, according to head coach Dallas Ferguson.
Ferguson said last Wednesday that 10 people formally applied and he narrowed the field to four finalists — two NCAA Division I assistant coaches, a Division III assistant and an applicant with experience as an assistant at the professional level.
Ferguson, a former Alaska defenseman, was named the Nanooks’ head coach on May 15, replacing Doc DelCastillo, who resigned in April after one season with the Central Collegiate Hockey Association program.
Ferguson had spent the last four seasons as a Nanooks assistant coach, working primarily with the defensemen and penalty-killing units.
Ferguson and John Rose were the assitant coaches last season, but Rose isn’t returning for a second season with the Nanooks. He had spent the previous three seasons with Mercyhurst College, an Atlantic Hockey Association program in Erie, Pa.
Carle drafted
Anchorage’s David Carle, the brother of San Jose Sharks defenseman and 2006 Hobey Baker Award winner Matt Carle, was selected Saturday by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the seventh round of the National Hockey League Entry Draft.
He was the only player with Alaska connections taken in the two-day draft in Ottawa.
David, a 5-foot-11 and 180-pound defenseman from Shattuck-St. Mary’s School, was the 203rd overall pick, going to the Lightning in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks.
The 18-year-old blueliner helped Shattuck-St. Mary’s capture the last two USA Hockey Under-18 Tier I national titles. He contributed a goal and an assist in this year’s championship game.
The University of Denver recruit compiled 14 goals and 43 assists for 57 points in 116 games in two seasons with the boarding school in Fairbault, Minn.

Forgot to mention that Carle has a heart abnormality that ended his career (unfortunately) and that the Lightning drafted him anyways, even though he's not playing anywhere anymore. That part's more important than just the fact that he was drafted.
