FAIRBANKS -- You can now get either a bachelor of arts or a minor in fisheries at the University of Alaska.

The Board of Regents approved the degree and minor, which will be offered at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

The new degree program is part of a multimillion-dollar expansion of the UAF fisheries program.

The university says the degree will prepare students for careers in fisheries business, policy, anthropology or rural community development.

Trent Sutton, is the coordinator for the undergraduate fisheries program. He says the program will train students in the social, economic and business aspects of fisheries.
