Blood Bank of Alaska hosts blood drives

Published Friday, June 20, 2008

Blood Bank of Alaska will host blood drives for six days beginning today for the first time in its own LIFEmobile.

The new LIFEmobile is 40 feet long and includes screening rooms, phlebotomy chairs, a cantina area and artwork.

According to the state blood bank, Alaska’s blood supply is dangerously low with a less than one-day supply available statewide.

Today, the LIFEmobile will accommodate donors from 11 a.m. at 4 p.m. at the Airport Safeway.

On Saturday, the LIFEmobile will be downtown at the BP Midnight Sun Festival from noon to midnight.

On Sunday, donors will find the LIFEmobile at Beaver Sports from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m; Monday it will be at Sam’s Club from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Tuesday it will be at the Eielson Air Force Base air show from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; and on Wednesday, the LIFEmobile will be at the WalMart Superstore grand opening from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Mobile blood drives will occur monthly in Fairbanks during the summer months.
