Alaska Supreme Court dismisses Pebble initiative

ANCHORAGE -- The Alaska Supreme Court has dismissed one of two "clean water" ballot initiatives aimed at blocking development of the Pebble copper and gold prospect in Southwest Alaska.
Justices on Monday agreed to dismiss a pending case disputing Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell's finding last year that the "Clean Water 1" initiative was unconstitutional.
The initiative was one of two filed by Pebble opponents to limit water pollution discharges from large mines.
Voters petitioned successfully to place both of the initiatives on the ballot.
The mining industry and some Native organizations sued to block both of them.
Sponsors of "Clean Water 1" recently asked Parnell to pull their proposed law.
The sponsors said it was too divisive and they wanted to put their energy into the less-stringent initiative, referred to as "Ballot Measure 4."
Parnell had not acted on that request. He will comply with the new Supreme Court order, according to Jason Hooley, a legislative assistant. That will keep the initiative off the ballot.
The Supreme Court has scheduled oral arguments on Ballot Measure 4 for next Monday.
Pending its ruling, Ballot Measure 4 is scheduled to appear on the statewide election ballot in August.

Hooray! Maybe crazy greenies can't ruin the world as we know it?
olypopper....I guess if we folks that kinda appreciate the color green as found so often in nature are "greenies" that would make the development-at-any-cost folks (such as you appear to be) perhaps "oilies"? Seems fitting...
