ANCHORAGE -- Authorities said they have arrested a man who allegedly molested or raped six adolescent girls during his daughter's sleepover parties in Anchorage.
Anthony Emil Shangin, 54, was arrested last week at his cabin in Chignik Lagoon after being indicted on May 22.
Shangin faces charges that he molested and raped two relatives and four other girls sleeping over with his daughter, according to a police affidavit filed in court. Police say he gave at least one of them a sexually transmitted disease.
The victims ranged in age from 11 to 15 at the time of the alleged assaults, which took place in 2003 and the summer of 2006.
They told police that they had awakened to find their clothes off and Shangin touching and, in some cases, having intercourse with them, court records say. Once, he allegedly left the bedroom to get a sex toy that he then used to assault his 13-year-old victim, the affidavit says.
One of his daughter's friends later told police she was uncomfortable around Shangin and had stopped going to his house after he had repeatedly groped and hugged her, even offering her vodka on at least one occasion, the affidavit says.
The most recent reported assault took place two years ago. The victim told investigators she woke up to find Shangin lying next to her in bed and removing her clothes. She told investigators she was too afraid to move.
The 15-year-old was treated at Alaska Native Medical Center for chlamydia a short time after she was assaulted. The affidavit says Shangin was treated for chlamydia as well as gonorrhea during the same period.
Shangin was being held at the Anchorage jail in lieu of $75,000 bail on charges of first-degree sexual assault, four counts of second-degree sexual abuse of a minor, two counts of third-degree sexual abuse of a minor and harassment.
According to court records, he has been convicted of driving while intoxicated, disorderly conduct and prostitution in Alaska.
Police say they suspect there may be more victims.
