Published Wednesday, July 30, 2008
WASHINGTON -- Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens is scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
Stevens will appear before Judge Emmet Sullivan at 1 p.m., according to court documents.
Stevens was indicted yesterday on seven counts of allegedly making false statements on his annual Senate financial disclosure forms to conceal more than $250,000 in gifts from VECO Corp. chief executive Bill Allen.
Stevens insists he's innocent of the charges and has vowed to fight.

It is a shame he didn't resign a couple of months ago so we could have honored him with parties and a parade this summer. As it is, he should resign now so the governor can appoint a good person to office with time to get ready for the election.
It seems the same mentality that feeds into "I'll never get caught" is the same that feeds into "why should I quit now?" Only today, finally, did Israel's Olmert announce that he's quitting -- he should have been out years ago. Look at Favre - he retires, and next thing you know he's back. These guys have huge egos, that's all. And yes, I agree, those of us who are foolish enough to respect and honor them just keep getting fooled.
Sarah Palin should offer him a deal. If he resignes now he can keep his name on the Anchorage airport.
Will this be televised?
I hope he doesn't wear one of those non-matching Hulk ties. That could be embarassing to us Alaskans.
Sarah should replace him! Forget about the troopers dynasty
Sarah is more than hot!
