Summer Alaska Volleyball Camps begin Monday

FAIRBANKS — This summer’s Alaska Volleyball Camps are set to serve young Alaskans with volleyball instruction this month.
The Beginner Skills Camp is for players with one year or less of organized training(usually grades 6-7). It will introduce participants to the foundation and fundamental skills of the game.
The beginner camp runs Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 4.p.m. each day, and costs $185.
The Intermediate Skill Camp is for players with one or more years of organizes training (usually grades 8-9) looking to polish their fundamental skills. It begin July 15 and meets daily from 9 a.m. to 4p.m. through July 18.
The Advanced Skills Camp is for those who are ready to play at the high school level (usually grades 10-12). The camp will focus on technical and tactical skills.
Both the advanced and intermediate camps cost $200 to join. All participants will receive a camp T-shirt.

Stars and Stripes tournament
Fairbanks’ Calvon Boots and Ethan Daniels are playing for the Northern Attack 98 team in the Stars and Stripes AAA hockey tournament in Edina, Minn. In its first game of the tournament, the Attack 98 defeated the Manitoba Lightning 7-4 Thursday night.
Also, Zack Ahiers of Fairbanks is playing in the tournament for the Northern Attack 97.
Northern Attack teams feature boys from across Alaska.
Alcan Hockey goal-scoring camp
Alcan Hockey will host a goal scoring camp from July 14-18 for mites, squirt and pee wee players.
The camp will emphasize the individual skill of goal scoring, including shooting angles, shot selection, training techniques and more.
Full-day and half-day programs are available.
