Nenana man sets house afire with cigarette

Published Thursday, February 14, 2008

A man allegedly set a Nenana house on fire following an argument with his girlfriend, according to court documents.

Bryan G. Nukapigak, 28, of Nuiqsut, has been charged with second-degree arson.

On Tuesday morning, the man’s girlfriend woke up to find him missing. She then went to her father’s house nearby to find Nukapigak.

On the way back, the pair began to argue. When they returned home, Nukapigak asked the woman if she would like a cigarette, then used the cigarette to set a towel on fire. He then told her they were going to burn together, according to a criminal complaint filed in court.

The woman then ran back to her father’s house barefoot. Her father arrived at the house to find Nukapigak passed out on the front porch with the house in flames, the complaint stated. He then pulled Nukapigak into the roadway.

Alaska State Troopers arrived shortly before 5 a.m. to find the home engulfed in flames and Nukapigak, his face covered in soot, lying unconscious in the roadway, according to the court document.

    Hey Chris,
The headline is an intentional untruth or sensationalism to associate cigarettes as bad or because as of late tobacco has been the latest whipping post, despite the fact that the real truth is he likely used a lighter to set the fire and the headlines would have been less inspiring that he just set the house on fire after a spat with his girlfriend.
Do us a favor. Take a towel and a cigarette and try to create a fire. Let us know how long it takes to get the red embers that won't stay lit without continuous efforts such as blowing on the towel to keep the embers hot for example to actually result in flames...

The dude had a lighter for christ sakes!!!

    Think for a moment.

Light a fire with flames from a lighter or I'll try to get creative and sit here for awhile trying to get some red embers to burst into flames...Yeah right...
