Dog returns after being lost in the Alaska woods for three weeks

Published Wednesday, December 17, 2008

JUNEAU, Alaska -- Bobber has found her way home.

The 3-year-old Lundehund was walking in the woods around Montana Creek near Juneau with a doggie daycare group two days before Thanksgiving.

Owner Denise Chase says gunshots from a rifle range spooked Bobber into the woods.

Chase and friends looked for Bobber every day since with no luck.

Then, last Saturday, people attending a bonfire at Windfall Lake attracted Bobber's attention, and she came running out of the woods.

She crawled in the lap of Amanda Bullman, whom Bobber knew from the daycare program, and went to sleep.

Chase called it a miracle, and was reunited with her lost -- and lighter -- dog the next day. Chase says Bobber dropped 5 pounds from her 20-pound frame since being lost.
