FAIRBANKS — The Monroe Catholic Rams and Delta Junction Huskies suffered tough Greatland Hockey Conference losses on Friday night.

Playing in a snowstorm on the outdoor rink at Kenny Lake, Monroe Catholic suffered a 3-1 loss to the hometown Hawks.

Meanwhile, in Delta Junction, the Huskies saw a two-goal lead slip away in a 6-5 setback at the hands of the Glennallen Panthers.

Monroe Catholic scored the game’s first goal, but Kenny Lake rallied to tie the game in the second and then scored two more unanswered goals in the third to wrap up the win.

Eric Ringstad got Monroe on the scoreboard off assists from Tommy Johnson and Tyler Holmes. G. Rosencranz, D. Rosencranz and A. Knutson scored goals for Kenny Lake.

Monroe Catholic goalie Andy Bunten stopped 22 shots, while Kenny Lake goalie David Helkenn made 12 saves.

Monroe coach Leo Faro said it snowed about 3/4 of an inch during each period Friday night.

“That was old-time hockey out there tonight,” Faro said. “We played a good game, but we had some mental lapses in the third period that cost us.”

The two teams play again at noon today.

Delta Junction jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period, but couldn’t hold on against a determined Glennallen squad.

The teams meet again today in Delta Junction.

Lathrop delayed

Friday’s Mid Alaska Conference game between the Lathrop Malemutes and Juneau-Douglas Crimson Bears was delayed by inclement weather.

The Malemutes were scheduled to catch a boat to Juneau at 6 this morning. They are scheduled to arrive at noon and play at 7 tonight.

Lundgren said he wasn’t sure if Friday’s game would be made up.
