Palin plans annual open house at Governor's Mansion in Juneau

Published Tuesday, December 2, 2008

JUNEAU, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin is planning the annual Christmas Open House at the Governor's Mansion.

The open house will be held Dec. 9 in Juneau, and features a 17-foot Lodgepole Pine provided for the mansion by Jim McFarlan and the Thorne Bay Business Association.

More than 20,000 cookies are being prepared for the event.

Members of Palin's cabinet will serve hot apple cider and treats.

The open house tradition dates back to New Year's Day 1913. It has taken place every year since except for two years during World War II.

And right after cookies and milk, boys and girls, the Governor plans to unpack and spend some time in Alaska for a change. Won't THAT be exciting?!

But seriously, our governor sounded unusually articulate at the National Governors Confab, talking about governor stuff! It was encouraging to hear her speak extemporaneously on something about which she is knowledgeable and at least superficially enthusiastic. (We have heard her speak on things about which she seemed enthusiastic and not knowledgeable so the difference is clear!)

Let's hope for more of what we heard from the National Governors event, and less empty-headed cheerleading for (her career advancement) and against others in distant places. How 'bout it, Gov?

    WOW!!!

Do you mean to tell me she is actually going to lower her standards and spend a day or two at the Governor's mansion. She is really, truly making a condescending appearance at our capitol.

I wonder if her Juneau constituents will recognize her. It has been a long time.

Next time we elect a Governor maybe we should make it clear that it has been the custom for Governor's to live in the Governor's mansion in Juneau, and not where ever you darn will please while collecting per diem to live in your own home. But perhaps Sarah was unaware of that custom, she did say "Thanks but no Thanks" so maybe she is also confused about where the Governor actually lives.

Perhaps someone should meet her and her family at the airport to help her find the place.

She let the chef go at how much savings? She has not spent big bucks flying she and her family in and out of Juneau. Having the capitol in Juneau is a joke to begin with. With the savings realized I am not upset with her getting the per diem. She does have an office in Anchorage.
The Alaskan whine has been pretty flat and bitter lately. They complain about her being gone but give EVERYONE else a pass and make excuses for her opponents being missing in action for most of the last two years. Not one has explained what state business she has been neglecting nor what she has to be physically present for that she has missed. You must love the salty taste of tears in your beer.

Do you people ever stop trashing Palin? She's holding an open house and her Cabinet members are serving you cider; what's not to like about that? I didn't vote for Palin for VP in part because I felt she was being too divisive, but you Palin-bashers on here sure aren't operating at any higher level.

Note that the article does not claim that our Governor will actually be there. Only her cabinet members are mentioned as planning to be present. Do you suppose that at the Open House folks will be asking, "Where's Sarah?"
