Fairbanks teacher participates in Boeing space camp program

Published Thursday, August 28, 2008

FAIRBANKS — Karyn Ellingson was one of 90 teachers worldwide invited to participate in the 2008 Boeing Educators to Space Camp program.

Ellingson, a fourth-grade teacher at Anne Wien Elementary School, learned what it takes to become an astronaut and how to inspire future engineers and scientists by completing workshops and activities that included simulated space missions, astronaut training and lectures about rocketry and space exploration.

The program was designed to introduce teachers to new ways to excite students about math and science. Teachers also received resources to help their students meet national standards for science, math and technology after the week-long program.

Karyn Ellingson and Anne Wien Elementary School congratulations!

Will be interesting to follow this fourth grade class and see how well these students meet national standards for science, math and technology down the road of their education.
